Hi Clive
Nothing special needed, just a serial cable between receiver and PC.
Use the Al7bar files from this site to patch your receiver :-

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Fortec/

There's plenty of satellites to choose from if you are going motorised of course, two of the most popular are Astra 19E and Hotbird 13E.

Hi clive
If your receiver is patched there will be a code menu (in channel edit menu).
1010 will show the various encryption systems.
These show the keys that you can update when necessary.
If you have a recent patch you shouldn't need to modify these.

hi clive
The top line is the satellite and channel you are on at the moment, Nova.
It's not possible to clear this at present as it is encrypted in Irdeto2.
13 b4 c9 is the ident of one of the Irdeto transmissions.
Go back to the list of encryption systems (Seca,Viaccess etc.) and choose one of those. The keys of the various ID's can be changed if you go to one of the key sites such as http://69.57.144.56/luxsat.be/NEW%20...pages/Keys.htm or http://www.la-cafetera.com/aston.htm

Keys are updated on these sites every few weeks.
Go to system information on your receiver and check which Al7bar version you have. The latest should be 242. This has up-to-date keys, so you won't need to change any(at present). To obtain the latest, go to:-
http://forums.al7bar.tk/showthread.php?t=19292
Using the downloader from www.Fortecstar.com you download to your receiver via a serial (straight) RS232 cable.

Hi
Al7bar 2.39 is fine for the majority of the current providers, the Boot version is OK for that app. and 2.42. Don't bother downloading a new patch yet - just check the latest keys for Via, S*ca and C*nax and change them if necessary. For a start, check out TPS on Hotbird and see if it is cleared. If not, go to Via in your code menu and change the keys for TPS (00 7C 00) to the latest ones from one of the key sites. Don't forget to press 'store' after any changes.

I thank you very much for putting up with what is probably very stupid questions, but they are only stupid questions if you know the answers http://www.satellites.co.uk/php-bin/...cons/icon7.gif ps the supplier says he did not patch it with 2.42 because they are having a few problems with that patch. cheers. clive

OK go to the Luxsat Via Key page and update Index OB in your code menu.(changed recently). Make sure all other Indexes (or should that be indices? ) are as shown. TPS should now be clear.
Via2 is a more secure encryption than Via1 and is not hacked yet.
The codes for each provider (e.g. TPS, Absat, CSF etc.) work for whatever satellite they happen to be transmitting on.
Be aware that there aren't that many encryption systems in the clear at the mo. TPS, multivision, Absat, C*nax channels on 1W are all OK.

Hello again clive - You're not thick, just a little confused.
The provider is TPS, and there are seven indexes 08 - 0E which they change regularly to update the encryption. Other providers have different sets of keys which are also changed, some daily, some less regularly (if at all).
In the case of TPS, Index 0B was changed on the date you mention, and this set of 8 keys you substitute in your code menu.
We do not give out keys on this forum, that's why we refer you to the various key sites.
Your other option is to patch your receiver with the latest Al7bar file, which will bring you fairly up-to-date.
I think we have gone as far as we can on this thread. If you like, you can PM me if you're still stuck.
