Question Help, Upgrading software...

Hi everyone,

In the middle of December, my satalite decoder, just stoped working, I checked for updates on the site and I reliased that I needed to update my one, I've got all the equipment that I need, its all connected, altho I'm not sure if its working properly, I have opened the "box loader software" added the file.. and finally pressed connect. But nothing happens it just says stuck.

What settings do I have to use, and how do I know if it working. Also do i have to turn off the box?

Sorry about this, I'm new to this, altho i do have some kind of idea on how it works, but im not exactly sure, any information would be helpfull.

Thank you

ps. I Already got the patch software.. I just dont know how to update it on the box

I have a Golden Interstar DSR-8001 Premium
Running Windows XP Proffesional

Hi emanueIN, I have an Interstar 8005 DSR 2CI Premium and updated for the first time. The principal is the same. I use a NULL MODEM (female to female) serial cable to connect to my pc on com port 1, first connect the STB to PC. STB switched off at the mains. Open loader (multi 5 or7 from Golden Interstar website.) Load update bin file into loader, press connect THEN switch the mains on for the STB and the loader will then download the software to the STB. When the program says success, switch off the STB and reconnect to the lnb, switch on and retune all channels. You may need to load the boot file if incompatabilty of software occurs IE: different software.
Check Golden Intersta website for matching files or www.la-cafetera.com/golden.htm
best of luck.

Hey,

Thank you for your reply.

I have tried that, altho it seems that the boot doesnt detect that the pc is connected to the STB, and when i do press connect, the bar at the bottom just stay blank and there is no "blue" squares.. to show the process of it.

Im not sure exactly what is going on, but it seems like there is a problem with the cables im using.
I have a M/F cable and using and gender changer in the other end so that both ends become F/F to connect to the PC and STB, would you say that the Gender changer has something to do with it not working or so?

PS. when i turn on my STB it just seems to go back to teh orginal channel that i left on when I unplugged it. and starts to connect/searching for teh channel.. but it doesnt show anything about success or anything like that..

I think the gender changer may be the problem. The null modem lead has 2 crossover wires in (not sure which) but the standard serial cable you are using does not have the crossover wires in the cable, I think the adaptor you are using may not be to alter the pin configuration but to adapt to different socket. A null modem cable is a must to connect to the receiver. I got mine off Ebay for £1.99. You don't get blue square indicators unless there is a connection so by process of elimination Iwould invest in a null modem cable
