receiver upgrade problem

Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong: Downloaded the latest software files, and the upgrade program- but when I run this it says 'invalid com port number, or com port not available' Tried changing port settings in device manager to no avail. Could it be something to do with the lead I'm using. They reccomend rs232 lead? but I have 1 female 9 pin serial to 25 pin male connected to another 25 pin female to 9 pin female which connects to serial port in back of pc, and other end into sat receiver? m.

I would think you need a 9 pin female to female null cable. If you're lead has connections which are 'straight through' I doubt it will work.
