Where to buy RS232/serial cable (for Fortec)

I've done the searches and read tons of threads but I can't find an online retailer mentioned (other than one that requires you to fax/post in your order. Most of the advice is to go to a computer shop, well I've done that (Staples and PCWorld were useless and that only leaves The Computer Shop - and, in the useless stakes, they're just as bad as the previous two!).

So can anyone suggest an online retailer that sells 'em. I'm not fussed if they're a PC shop or a satellite one - just as long as they're reliable, honestly priced. At the moment I'm looking at Vision Satellite via Ebay but £15.50 inc P&P seems a tad too much (albeit with a CD and details/help - but then I can get that for nada online!).

BTW it's for a Fortec Star Lifetime Diamond (which means it should be a female to female straight through cable - according to the manual!!).

Cheers

I hadn't noticed advertisers other than the 'ads by Google' (which I usually blank as Google has a habit of being irrelevant!).

Cheers for the links, I had gone to that site the other day (via a bargain hunting forum!) but was uncertain of what cable would/might be right and their shipping seemed steep. But seeing as they're a sponsor and they're £6 cheaper than that Ebay option, I might be tempted!

I think SL-444 would be the right one, but I'm not 100% certain. What d'you reckon?

Try Maplin's.

9-way serial RS232 serial cable Code VD73Q £4.99

Gender changer (needed for the Fortec) JW58N £4.99

Unless you can find a female-female straight RS232 cable (doubtful)

That's true Rolf. You need one for STB - STB S/W Xfer though. I assume Skip Channel wants a STB-PC cable.

Indeed you're right Llew, STB-PC I want - not STB-STB.

There you go then. If you don't have a Maplin's near you, their online ordering/delivery is fast.

Maplins cost: £12.48, Vision Satellite (via Ebay): £15.50

I think I'll go for the latter. It's 3 squid more from VS but it's definately the cable for the receiver and although the CD and info that comes with it is stuff I could probably find (or have already found) on my own, it's a little bit of extra support.
