My System: Sky X
Question Need help with updating software for a Sky X digital receiver

Hello all
the last couple of days i've been trying to upgrade my receiver software using a serial cable which connects from my laptop pc to the rs232 port in the receiver.. i have all the necessary software (loader, boot file, keys etc..). for some reason both the loader and the receiver dont seem to detect a connection between the pc and the receiver and the loader cant find any com ports except com1, which if i try to connect through nothing happens except the loader says "connect ur stb and turn it on", which i do but nth happens. so i try other com ports but all the program says is "no available com port". I've tried everything and nothing seems to work, and oh by the way the cable is a DB 9-pin female to female serial cable.. which is the right one i suppose, but i have no idea y it is not working. i tried multiple loader programs too such as skyx and darkman's loader and srtloader but all give the same results mentioned above. I am running out of ideas, so if anyone could help i would really apreciate it. and by the way its a sky X digital satellite receiver.
thx anyway

Well

Perhaps you should be using a null modem cable not a standard modem cable

whats a null modem cable?
anyway i forgot to mention that i also tried the procedure with an old humax receiver i had (IRCI-5400) with a humax uploader and hdf files, but that didnt work either.
y does the loader not detect any com ports besides com1 (that happened with both loaders humax and skyx on my laptop and on my desktop too altho both have more than 1 com port and they definately have a serial port each)?
thx for the reply btw

Null modem cables are wired differently from normal serial cables - some of the wires are crossed over internally.

thx for the clarification
could me using the wrong serial cable be the cause of the loader not detecting other com ports besides com1?
anyway i'll see about trying the crossover cable and we'll see what happens.
