how to install/upgrade starsat receiver?

Friends,

I am new to this forum and also new to this satellite types of discussion.
One of my friend gave a Startsat receiver for free.
due to some curiosity, i would like to upgrade the firmware or install a new program for the receiver.
now, how can i install/upgrade a software or firmware in the receiver?
How can i connect my receiver to my computer?
is only thru the computer i have to upgrade the software or firmware of the receiver?
now i have only one receiver? to do all the updates or patches what are all the things/hardwares/cables/softwares i have to buy.

As I am new to this field, please instruct me the step by step process to achieve my goal.

Thanks & Regards,
Sathyguy

Have a look at the sticky threads at the top of this section, there is one So you want receiver software patches (v2) , which gives the upload sites for different makes of receiver, the Starsat amongst them. You will need either a serial or Nulmodem cable and loader software, but beware that it is possible to fry your receiver in the process.

Yes, you can if you want. You have just been warned that if anything goes wrong you may damage your box.
Download the latest patch available from any of the sites listed in the first link Rolfw posted for you.
Then go and read this post
For STARSAT RECEIVER

This should give you enough help to start.

Hope it helps
