Angry Technisat SkyStar USB - No Signal

Hi,

I just got my SkyStar USB 2 days back and these 2 days have a complete nighmare. I am complete newbie to this DVB-PC thing and think am an idiot. hehehe

Well my problem is that i am not getting any signals. I have plugged and installed the proper hardware and software, everything gets detected i am using the 4.4.1 drivers from the official site and i am not using any kind of diseqc (i have a cable directly coming from the dish).

I have tried all kinds of softwares from DVB Viewer , DVB Dream, Fast Sat Finder and many many more . but not luck, i have even tried to use different usb ports, the satellite i am trying to tune is NSS6 (i have nilesat and asiasat 3s as well buts its on diseqc and i dont want to get into those complications right now so i am using the direct nss6.)

In DVB Dream when i tune is just flies through all the transponders and doesnt pick up even a single channels and says not signal. even server4pc shows 0% signal. Altought my FTA STB picks up 70-75% signal.

Any suggestions ?? is it a common problem ?

So how are you moving your dish then are you using goto X?

Also I think members would be expecting a little more detail on the settings, the more information you give us the easier it is to problem solve.

well the dish is fixed, it doesnt move. For my NSS 6 dish i am connecting the lnb directly to the ss box where as ive got 2 other dishes nilesat and asiasat 3s which can be connected using diseqc but i am not trying that right now as i want to keep it smple and first try to connect the Nss 6 directly.

Here is the setup in very simple words:

Fresh Installation of Windows XP
Insatlled the Driver for SS USB version 4.4.1
Installed the latest version of Dvb Dream
the Cable comming from the dish is directly connected to the SS USB

The scan in DD takes less than a second for 28 transponder and all of them are listed under no signal......

Is your graphic card working OK?
Can you play a video clip on your PC with any of the applications like DVB Dream or ProgDVB and see if it plays as expected in the application window?
For this you don't need the satellite setup to be working.

Yeah the graphics card is perfectly fine... in DD i can see the volume and other controls in OSD

well the thing is i am not even able to tune the channels... as if the signal is not present.... and last night while i was trying i got a small signal i mean it fluctuated a lot... from 30%-100% then 0%..... but still no success in scanning for channels.

Try to get hold of an STB box, even an FTA and check that your dish and LNB can show all the channels that are available on this satellite.
So far you have been trying to scan using SS2 w/o success, but a standalone receiver can shed some light if your satellite installation is perfect.

already tried that and my FTA STB picks up almost all the channels 300+ with 80-90% quality.... from the same cable coming from the dish

Sorry, but have to ask this:
Are you using a twin LNB or you are just connecting the cable to the FTA STB box to verify all channels are there and then disconnecting and connecting it to the SS2.
There must total isolation between the two receivers.

Well

Another thing that has cropped up before is that the length of the central copper core is ok on the first stb the FTA therefore you get channels but you require a longer central core for the PC card, try remaking the connection for the F connector leaving a longer central core

hehehee....... i need to improve my english !!!

well good and bad news....

Good News: i had returned my ss usb box to the place where i had bought it and after a day the guy gave me a new box and told me their was a hardware problem in my old one.... so i come back home and plug it in and it works... scans and does everything fine.... i am happy...

Bad News: Almost after using for a day the box has started to act strange... i am not receiving any more channels or signal and the quality keep on bouncing from 0% to 30% to 100% to 0% !!! .... so i am sad once again.....

in dvb dream in the devices folder i see a log file for the b2c2 device driver... here is a line from it...

[000133578] SetTuner() 12399000, 0, 27500000 LOF:10600000 22Khz:1
[000136734] FAILED: B2C2 MPEG2 Filter Tuner Ctrl. Interface SetTunerStatus method failed

btw i am using the b2c2 sdk device in the DVB devices section.. the other on never seemed to work for me... even when sdk was working fine...

any suggestions on my new situation.....

Perhaps you have a fault in your system. LNB maybe?
You didn't answer my question about how do you connect the FTA box and the SS2 with the same cable.
Are you using loopthrough?

hi HB13DISH, sorry i had overlooked your quesiton..... well the lnb and the position of the Dish is fine cause my STB works fine... i am not using a loopthrough, i physically disconnect the cable from the STB and connect it to the SS Box....

The lines i pasted, from the log file, do they indicate a driver issue !

Thanks for your help !

I hope that you do the connections after shutting down the STB or the PC.
Live connection can damage your LNB or receiver (STB or PC card or USB version)
A twin LNB and two cables would give you a better fixed system.

Disconnecting the cable whilst the receiver is powered is asking for trouble I'm afraid. Damage could have been caused to the receiver.
Since you have done this, fault diagnosis would be difficult as we cannot be sure that another hardware fault has not been caused.
The code lines you have posted seem to suggest a tuner error.

I think that this might be the cause for your problem. It is possible that the SS2 is more sensetive to this than your STB.
The first SS2 card might have been OK to start with, and was damaged as a result of the sudden surge of power.
The second SS2 was OK on first install, but didn't take it for long.
I suggest that you return it to the shop once more, explain to the shop assistant and perhaps this time you would pay the full price for the third unit or get some kind of return arrangement since the design of the SS2 is probably not well protected against surges.
Installing the twin LNB can help.

Ooops ! this doesnt sound good !

But in such a cause wouldnt the whole device just stop working......the first device was different cuase it didnt even show me a slight indication of signal, whereas this one shows fluctuations in the signal......and wouldnt the warranty cover this....the shop keepers assured me of one years warranty incase of any problem, infact i'll take it to the shop tomorrow. and is their any device that i can plug between the ss box and the lnb so that it can be protected from such problems....

and sure its not a device driver issue ?

Are you sure that these units are geniune and not clones?
To have one unit not working to start with is possible, but to have the second one as a bad unit should be quite alarming.
I hope that you will have better luck with your third unit.
This time take extra precautions with the cable connection and shutting down of PC is a must.
There is no such device. Just need to be more careful.
