I am considering getting a skystar as Im too skint to justify a dreambox. Its just for a litle mess about with really, wont be needing it for a ll my telly needs ![]() Iv read alot about streaming from pci dvb-s cards to an xbmc and it sounds ideal for when a big match is on etc. Thats all its for tbh. What I want to know is what does the skystar 2 offer that the original skystar doesnt. Can the original one be used for card sharing? Not that I want to just curious...... Iv seen them going pretty damn cheap so if they can do what the old one could do then I will get one.

Also, it has a TV out connector. However, I would be reluctant to buy SkyStar 1 as the support for it must have ended years ago which could mean problems with newer operating systems like XP and Vista during installation. It used to be a lot more expensive than Sky Star 2. What is the price offered now? I suppose that they are second hand. Edit: Why did you type Nexus-S in your post? This is a premium card and I doubt if you would get it cheap.

My System: No Current set up | I though they where the nexus was the same card I stand corrected. It was on Ebay So does the skystar 2 not have a tv out then? I suppose for unofficial purposes you dont need the cam do you as it would ude softcams, is that right?

The new generation is SkyStar HD which has a CI accessory option if you decide to buy it later on.

My System: Covering 30W-105.5E range, two motors, C and Ku band. Various receivers/cards/cams/etc. | Skystar1 also can't handle too low or too high Symbol Rates - which are quite common these days.

My System: skystar2 pci skystar usb + porty lidl camping dish maybe one day i'll have a dreambox 500s... | Nexus is the hauppauge branded version, skystar 1 is the technisat, of course they're all really technotrends ![]() Support exists for XP and Vista, of course. THe only advantage of the card is that it has a hardware mpeg2 decoder which was badly needed back in the days when PCs weren't capable of that is called "hardware mode" and it displays an interlaced image off the tv-out connector. The skystar 2 is a software only card, and thus obviously doesn't have tv-out. You should notice that the Nexus/ss1/whatever is also capable of working in software mode.
