Mediaguard2(seca2) and Videoguard possible?

Hi, i'm newbie on sat tv and i need some guidance.

I'm a payed subscriber of my local sat tv, therfore i have the smartcard.
According lyngsat.com, it uses Mediaguard2 and Videoguard.

I'd like to record sat tv onto my home-theater pc using progdvb. I've done some reading, and it tells me i need a compatible dvb-s pci card, and some "softcam", 'cause there's no CAM for seca2.

Is it possible to do this? If so, how would i go about setting it up?

Please help out, thanks !!

Perhaps if people knew what your local TV was they would be able to answer you. A location of Malxysixm in your profile means nothing to me, what satellite is it? what bouquet is it?

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

Lets see - the IP address resolves to Malaysia so nsu is probably after the Astro TV package on Measat 3.

There are DVB-S PCI cards with a CI slot.
All you need to do is buy a compatible Seca 2 CAM and insert the smartcard inside the CAM.
Check out our site sponsors for such a CAM.
But check first if the smartcard should be matched/married to the STB.

This is the part were i'm clueless, and there arent many newbie/beginner tutorials around. I'll be glad if you could recommend some good tutorials.

I've found some mediaguard2 CAM on your sponsor's site, but there aren't any CAM with both mediaguard2 and videoguard.

If i happen to find a mediaguard2+videoguard cam, will it work for all sats? or does it only work for a particular sat?

Do mediaguard2 and videoguard softcams even exist?
If so, how would i go about setting it up?

Is important that my smartcard matches/married the STB?
I don't quite understand.

I already have my smartcard + stb supplied by my sat tv, and i'm not looking for a new stb, just a pci dvb-s and a way to connect my sat dish to my hometheater-pc.

It would help if you can tell us the package name and if your card is videoguard or mediaguard2.

Not sure if my card is videoguard or mediaguard2, or both.

Take a good look at the card, from both sides and see if there is any info regarding the encryption system. It can't be both. Or ask the provider.
Anyway, you will be taking a big chance if it is in Videoguard (NDS).
My recommendation is to save your money on buying PCI card and CAM and just use the analogue AV output from your receiver and a video card with AV inputs and a software application like Nero to record to the PC.

There only info on my smartcard is the barcode and some numbers. No mention of any encryption system.

I thought it uses both mediaguard2 and videoguard 'cause thats whats mentioned on lyngsat.com.

However I've asked around and foundout that Dreambox DM600PVR is indeed compatible with my local sat tv's smartcard. Does this info give any hint on what encryption my sat tv uses?

I'm yet give up my first preference since i already have a htpc sitting around. Looking forward for all your ideas and suggestions.

Thanks!!

What is written on the card there must be some writing? if it is just plain white then it cannot be a genuine subscription card.

Why not take a snapshot of it them we can see it!

You have still not confirmed what the package is....what is it????

If you don't answer the questions asked it will not be possible to help

The link to the package is at post #8.
Nothing, just the corporate logo in the front, and the barcode at the back.

I quite certain the bills i receive every month is pretty genuine.

Looking forward for all your replies.

I am still unclear as what the question is, if you have a subscription card, I suggest getting the DMR600PVR if you are certain it is compatible, not many people in Europe will know much technically about a satellite on the other side of the earth to us i.e. below our horizon. However please be aware that it is entirely feasible that whenever you want to watch the recording you will probably need to decrypt it again with your smartcard.
