My System: Sat TV : Astrx (ku band); Satellite : Mexsxt 3 PC: AMD Am2 4000+ 2GB ddr2 ram Winxp Sp2 MediaCenter 2005; DVB-S card: haven't decided |
Hi, i'm newbie on sat tv and i need some guidance. I'm a payed subscriber of my local sat tv, therfore i have the smartcard. According lyngsat.com, it uses Mediaguard2 and Videoguard. I'd like to record sat tv onto my home-theater pc using progdvb. I've done some reading, and it tells me i need a compatible dvb-s pci card, and some "softcam", 'cause there's no CAM for seca2. Is it possible to do this? If so, how would i go about setting it up? Please help out, thanks !!

All you need to do is buy a compatible Seca 2 CAM and insert the smartcard inside the CAM. Check out our site sponsors for such a CAM. But check first if the smartcard should be matched/married to the STB.

I've found some mediaguard2 CAM on your sponsor's site, but there aren't any CAM with both mediaguard2 and videoguard. If i happen to find a mediaguard2+videoguard cam, will it work for all sats? or does it only work for a particular sat? Do mediaguard2 and videoguard softcams even exist? If so, how would i go about setting it up? Is important that my smartcard matches/married the STB? I don't quite understand. I already have my smartcard + stb supplied by my sat tv, and i'm not looking for a new stb, just a pci dvb-s and a way to connect my sat dish to my hometheater-pc.

| Anyway, you will be taking a big chance if it is in Videoguard (NDS). My recommendation is to save your money on buying PCI card and CAM and just use the analogue AV output from your receiver and a video card with AV inputs and a software application like Nero to record to the PC. | |||

I thought it uses both mediaguard2 and videoguard 'cause thats whats mentioned on lyngsat.com. However I've asked around and foundout that Dreambox DM600PVR is indeed compatible with my local sat tv's smartcard. Does this info give any hint on what encryption my sat tv uses? I'm yet give up my first preference since i already have a htpc sitting around. Looking forward for all your ideas and suggestions. Thanks!!

Why not take a snapshot of it them we can see it! You have still not confirmed what the package is....what is it???? If you don't answer the questions asked it will not be possible to help

I am still unclear as what the question is, if you have a subscription card, I suggest getting the DMR600PVR if you are certain it is compatible, not many people in Europe will know much technically about a satellite on the other side of the earth to us i.e. below our horizon. However please be aware that it is entirely feasible that whenever you want to watch the recording you will probably need to decrypt it again with your smartcard.
