SkyStar HD 2 Specs

Does anyone have detailed specs for the SkyStar HD 2 PCI card ? Details on the Technisat site are a bit sparse. In particular I would like to know what the symbol rate range is. Also, I assume it is a DVB-S2 compatible card ?

Edit: - After googling it appears that the symbol rate range is 2-45Mbps. Pity, was hoping for 1-45Mbps.

What do you mean by sparse? The Technisat website has all the information that you need.
Try again in the download section.

I have checked the PDF manuals available in the download section if that's what you mean and found no mention of the symbol rate capabilities. If you mean somewhere else within the download section then please point me in the right direction.

Ratchet, it's a rebadged Twinhan AD-SP400, the specification of which can be found here -

Not too impressed with it for scanning low symbol rates, mine's fairly deaf to anything under ~2250 Mbps. Perhap's it's just my card though

I was considering this card, the Nova HD S2 or the Technotrend S2 3200. The Nova has a symbol rate range of 1-45 but as far as I can see it cant take a CI module. The TT has a CI interface socket but like the Twinhan can only handle 2-45Mbps. I'm looking for a card that can handle 1-45Mbps and take a CI module but haven't managed to find one yet.

I've had symbol rate issues in the past and cured it by replacing my Invacom quad LNB. The old one worked fine apart from the low symbol rates. No problems with the new LNB.

I don't have any problem with those low rates when I scan the same channels into, say, my Echostar or Fortec Passion HD. Tried different DVB applications on the PC, same problem. My older Skystar 2 with a different tuner/driver is better than the HD version.

I swopped an Invacom dual with a new quad, but there was no difference.

Hope your quest for a PCI card with the specs you want is successful, I'll keep a lookout too.

Cheers Llew, I decided just to go for a Nova HD S2. I've went for a different solution for recording encrypted HD channels - a Hauppage HD PVR linked to my Passion HD/Diablo. This has the added benifit of being able to record output from my PS3 also.

Phew, that Hauppauge is some bit of kit
Should work great with the Passion.

Let us know how you get on with the low SR's on the Nova.

The Nova HD arrived today and so far it has coped very well with low SR stuff. Here are some of the channels it coped with perfectly.

36.0E
Mir Belogorya - 12546 V 1747 3/4
TBM - 12616 V 1628 2/3
TelefortuneSat - 12633 V 1331 3/4

33.0E
Hayat TV - 11093 H 1429 5/6
Gercek TV - 11096 H 1526 3/4
Rete Oro - 11164 V 1666 2/3

12.5W
Calabria Channel - 12604 H 1481 3/4

22.0W
Sardegna Uno - 11636 H 1695 5/6

24.5W
One TV - 11025 V 1475 7/8

My only gripe so far is that it takes a while to initialize when I launch DVB Viewer and can be sluggish sometimes when switching between channels. *

* Edit - ignore my original gripe about speed, worked fine after a reboot

There aren't many MPEG4 feeds around. I found one a couple months ago with the Skystar HD2, can't remember what satellite it was on though.

Great stuff Ratchet. Thanks for the list, I'll see if I can push my SS2 HD to the limits on those

Should have the Nova HD coming this week. It should allow me to dispense with the Skystar 2 and Skystar HD2 card, which I have on an A/B switch, as it's perportedly compatible with Linux and TSReader (which the Skystar HD2 isn't).

My System: Technomate 1500CI+ and Hauppauge WinTV NOVA-HD-S2 on a 104 cm motorized dish and Humax HDCI200 on 90 cm motorized dish.

I love my Nova, only problem is the signal read out is useless 94% or nothing.

Scanning low SR's and really weak feeds are a breeze.

Just popped it into the PC. I'll put it through its paces tonight, see if it's compatible with Linux (OpenSuse/Kaffeine).

Can't find a source in TSReader that works with my tuner version (69100). What source file did you use remlap? Maybe I need to update to a later version.

I am fan of DVBViewer and its Transedit to be honest, it does all I need include monitor transport streams.

Yes that's what I invariably use. Just wanted to confirm that the Nova picks up TSReader. Got it to work, but very flaky, only manages to tune a few TP's on various satellites.

Just trying it out on Linux. Finds the driver, but Kaffeine doesn't show a DVB tag. Need to find some firmware that will work with it.

My System: Covering 30W-105.5E range, two motors, C and Ku band. Various receivers/cards/cams/etc.

SR is 2-45mbps for DVB-S
but 10-30mbps for DVB-S2

please take notice.
