My System: MediaPortal 1.0 HTPC; Hauppauge NOVA HD S2 DVB-S2. |
I live in a building made up of 14 flats. We have a Sky dish installed somewhere as the previous owners had Sky. I am unable to tell how many dishes, LNB's, whether any switches are used, etc. I'm trying to scan for Freesat (Astra 28.2E) channels but failing. I'm using a PCI Hauppauge NOVA HD S2 DVB-S2 card. I am using MediaPortal and my Signal Level is 100% but Signal Quality is always 0% and I keep getting red "no signal" errors. I have tried using Hauppauge's own WinTV v7 software, and even this can't find any channels! I imagine this is something to do with the LNB setup settings? I have no idea what to enter as I've moved from the cable scene to the sat one and a complete noob at the moment... Anyone able to assist please?

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me. | Without any knowledge at all of the configuration and condition of the system, it's impossible to say what the problem is: Don't be misled by the 100% Signal Strength reading. No Quality = No Signal and that is as likely to be due to nothing being available at your wall socket (or whatever) as it is to be due to an incorrect card setting. You really need to make enquiries of Building Management before we can go any further.

hello i agree, there may be a receiver set up problem. if you can borrrow some one else in the same building and set it up at your house and it works no problem then its you set up on your box. lnb power should be on and 22 khz should be on nas well. the system will know to cross over at 11.7 ghz. if the lnb is off then it will not work. if there was a lnb problem at the multi switch then no ones system in all 14 flats would be working. keep us informed. ralph

My System: MediaPortal 1.0 HTPC; Hauppauge NOVA HD S2 DVB-S2. | I don't really have a receiver I can borrow, but I will try and come up with something as this is a logical first step... What should I ask my management company specifically? I doubt they'll be too clued up on this...

Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT | You could ask them to send someone to check out your satellite feed I suppose, maybe they would charge you though. Or pay someone local to come and check your feed, it is a very quick job.

Nor me. | Well I'd be inclined to ask a few of your neighbours if they have any problems - If they don't, then as ralphmagno said earlier, the system may actually be fine: But that wouldn't tell you if someone had acquired your feed somehow - A lot of Flats have problems with insufficient feeds in these days when many folk want to use PVRs and it isn't unknown for a rabbit run to be created by some enterprising (or foolhardy?) other Resident. But maybe in the course of speaking to neighbours, one might let you borrow their box to try? BTW, have you successfully used your Hauppauge Card elsewhere?

Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser. | If the last occupier had Sky working, then it is most likely to be your PC card settings. Could you go through the setup menus and tell us what settings you have? Perhaps even take some screen grabs and upload them here.

My System: MediaPortal 1.0 HTPC; Hauppauge NOVA HD S2 DVB-S2. | I purchased the card from Ebay
On a further point, the wall plate has a TV Female Socket and a Satellite F-Socket. There is only one coax cable in the wall connected to the plate. I tested the Freeview signal using the TV Female Socket. This works perfectly. So at least we know the single cable in the wall is connected to at least something…

My System: MediaPortal 1.0 HTPC; Hauppauge NOVA HD S2 DVB-S2. | Good news (kind of), ProgDVB has found channels, thus there is a signal on the line. Any idea how ProgDVB can help me on what settings to use in MediaPortal?

Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser. | Hmm, that seems OK, where it says at the bottom "Obtained from NIT information", that would indicate that the card has read the satellite. I'm wondering if it's a Media Portal problem.

My System: MediaPortal 1.0 HTPC; Hauppauge NOVA HD S2 DVB-S2. | I'm trying to scan with ProgDVB atm. Can't get a single thing. Trying all sorts of options. The previous 'Lost Channel' list doesn't even appear any more ...

My System: MediaPortal 1.0 HTPC; Hauppauge NOVA HD S2 DVB-S2. | Got my hands on a Goodmans Freesat Box and it scanned all channels in a matter of seconds! All channels show 100% signal and 100% quality... This narrows it down to the settings and card. Anyone have any ideas on the settings I require?

Nor me. | Great news that the feed is ok. I'm glad my earlier fence-sitting wasn't justified! I've never used a PC Card for DSAT but presume that like a box you need to make LNB settings somewhere. Unless I'm mistaken, even though your feed is from a Multiswitch, as a user you just treat it as a Universal 9750/10600 LNB. Check what settings you actually have in that respect.

My System: MediaPortal 1.0 HTPC; Hauppauge NOVA HD S2 DVB-S2. | Fantastic news. After uninstalling the card's drivers, removing the card, reinserting it into the same PCI slot, reinstalling the drivers, WinTV & ProgDVB found all the channels. But MediaPortal was still showing 'no signal'. A re-installation of that has also fixed everything . The settings were the default ones. i.e. 'No Diseqc' and Universal LNB.Thankyou very much too all of you who offered me advice throughout .
