skystar 2 "Out of Lock" and doesn't work

I have a Skystar 2 PCI card from a shop (not from an satellite internet provider) and it is installed properly, but I can't see any TV channels using DVBviewr (found in the included CD-ROM) or any other DVB programs (e.g. progdvb). The icon of Setup4PC program in the tool bar is always red.

Using the setup4pc program and then clicking on status, I got the following:

Network: acquiring... then it says No information

Signal quality: 0% Out of Lock

(I don't know what it does mean by Out of Lock!!)

I'm sure that the dish is aligned correctly and that the LNB and the cable are O.K. (I can see T.V channels using the digital receivers), and that the card is installed in my PC correctly and the drivers are installed correctly.

I have only one LNB that is connected directly to the Skystar 2 card (i.e. no DiSEqC or splitters)

These are my PC specifications:

Pentium 4 (1.6 GHz)

512 Mb RAM

40 GB H.D (free 12 G.B)

3D VGA card (32 MB)

U.S Robotics PCI network card

Skystar 2 PCI card

Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 2

Here are the details of the skystar 2 card (obtained from the card itself)

P/N: 92105-20003

REV: 2.6 C

S/N: 2105442806712

MAC: OODOD709CF20

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

Using setup4pc, add a new satellite and enter a transponder which you know is working, 10.77 H is always a good one with some free to air channels, you can find loads more at http://www.lyngsat.com/28east.html

Hi I am also new to this and I have the exact same problem. Just that I have DiSEqC on my dish with 4 headers so I can aim at 4 different satellites.

SO I also have this red status bar and before I should even try with DVBviewer or any other programs I should have this status to green, right?

I have also a digital receiver and it works fine so there is no issue about the dish being wrongly angled. I am aiming at these following sats:
Astra 19.2 ; Sirius 5ºE ; Thor 1ºW; Hotbird 13ºE

So i simply plug in the cable to the card and try one of the default sat settings like the Astra 19.2 but I just simply won´t get any signal.

I´ve got a following cd and I have isntalled what is needed to be installed.

I have browsed around alot on the web and found only 2 different guys which have the same problem as mine but they haven´t got any real answers.

so please.. some help would be appreciated

I am sorry for the 5-year delay of this reply.

I am having the same problem even if I have installed the last drivers and even if we are 5 years later!

Has anyone found the solution?

hello, double click red icon, sever4pc opens, satellite available in selectable drop down menu.
select the sat you got the dish pointing at.
click transponder management.
click add.
enter frequency and symbol rate.
try this for hotbird.......
10719 ,Vertical,sybol rate ,,27500
click the tune button, that should tune in and give you sataus .
you can also in transponder management, scan a range of frequencies,
enter start freq and end freq,.

basicly the red icon and settings are for satelitte internet providers.

use dvbview, find channel list, click sat providers or whatever it is,doing this from memory ,,,,,select the sat from drop drown menu,
and scan the sat.
that will update all progs for dvbview.
progdvb,,,,
setting, disqce, lnb, change or add sat to your sat, save, channel list tab, scan the sat you just added, if no satproviders, download channels ,make sure their for you version of prodvb, put them in the channels folder in prog directory,
start progdvb ,you should now have lots of sat tabs to select from

Thank you for your reply!

I have already done all these

My problem is strange: When I connect the coaxial of the LNB EVERYTHING WORKS FINE FOR 5 MINUTES. Then the signal strength says 50-60% but the signal quality is totally lost to 0%, and it says "Out of lock". If I turn off the card and let some time pass and connect it again the same happens (5 minutes ok and then signal quality is getting lost).

I have returned my card (Skystar USB) to the seller and he gave me a brand new. BUT I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM!

I suspect a grounding that must be done?

you could try grounding your dish, and lnb cable, the outer steel connector, ground it to a water pipe, but i don't think that will solve any probs.
you are supposed to ground the dish and lnb, but i never bothered untill recently.

how long do you test the other receiver on the cable and dish you have?
does the quality fade on other receiver?
if all is ok with other reciever then try to get the latest driver for your card, again search google for the drivers.
install them and restart your pc.
if that don't work, send nasty messages to tecnisat.
lol

My System: Sky Stars 2
Please help me - Sky star 2 problem

Hello!

I have exactly the same problem as sesaban. But I could not get better results with instructions of drewski.

I have Technisat Sky Star 2 card and DVB viewer. Using the setup4pc program and then clicking on status, I got the following:

Network: acquiring... then it says No information

Signal quality: 0% Out of Lock

(I don't know what it does mean by Out of Lock!!)

There is no parameter for signal strength.
The dish and cable are ok.

Please could someone explain where is the problem ?

Drewski was mentioning something about Internet Satellite, but I have a dish and I don't need a Satellite trough Internet. Do I use good program (DVB Receiver) ? Sometime the Signal turn out to be ok, but the icon is always red.

Thank you in advance!

Hello again,
right, i just did all this for you to check if it works, it does,,,,
on dvbview right lick, channellist, delete all channels, scan tab, drop down menu, set your sat, symbolrate box, make sure you got the right ones for your sat, check on lyngsat for right symbolrates, click scan&update box, press scan, three red boxs should turn yellow when it finds something, one box will say how many progs it found, after last frequecy as scanned, press stop, goto EDIT TAB ,press update, goto channellist your scanned progs should be there, if not , restart program, channellist, click a station that does not have a coloured box on it, it should work ok now, i don't use dvbview, i use progdvb,it's loads better, you can dowload it from dvbupload, and lots of things like channel lists, and more.
hope this helps.

My System: Sky Stars 2

Hi drewski!

Thank you so much for reply. But still I haven't solved the problem.
I have that red icon of satellite dish in tray. I hope the drivers are ok, I'm not sure could they be wrong for example for TV card instead for Sky star. In Devices it is "Technistar DVB PC TV Star PCI" - so I think is the wrong driver, isn't it ?

Other thing when I go to right click to red icon I have for example few Astra satellites, but I suppose they are all from Internet, but I want to set to watch from satellite dish. There are written for instance just for Astra:

T:SL via SatelliteSat::Astra 19.2 E
Sat@Once::Astra 19.2 E
AliceSat::Astra 19.2 E
aTHP::Astra 19.2 E

So, what should I check ?

I installed ProgDVB, and when I go to setup, DiSEqC is on None, but when I want to add LNB I cannot do that.

One other thing: In Setup4PC I choose Astra 19.2 E, in Transponder Managment on the left side I have lots of frequencies (I already scan) and on the right side:

Start Frequency: 10.773
End Frequency: 12.728
Step Size: 5
Symbol Rate1: 22000
Symbol Rate2,3: Empty

Thanks for assistance ! I hope I will put it on track soon!
