My System: Sky Star 2 - Motorised Errr.. thats it.

Hi Homer, only just "popped my motor cherry" myself last week... ahem.
I'm getting 15 satellites:
Hispasat,Thor,Hotbird,Astra 19.2,Eurobird,Astra1A & Sirius 2-3,Eutelsat W1, EutelsatW2,Eutelsat W3,Astra 3A,Eutelsat Seesat W4,Telecom 2C,Telecom 2D Atlantic Bird 2, Telstar 12, NSSK 803
The above list is not in any order and I must point out some satellites only provide
a few channels, I suspect I'm not pulling in a good signal from these.
A little point to add if your searching for Satellites, if you use the function in the disesq plugin to find the strongest signal you can see if your actually picking up a signal from your intended satellite before you do a transponder search in your DVB program, saves a lot of time.
Also ensure you search ALL the transponders, if your DVB software has not picked up any channels at the beginning of the search it does not mean your not picking up the satellite, just that those transponders are either not on or the beam is not directed at the UK area. (I found this out at 16 degrees East)

What's got four legs and goes "shhhhhhhhhh"?

My System: Innovative, Diseqc Motor, 80cm dish

cheers for the info people.

seems i was a little premature with my statement as i'm struggling to get anything east of hotbird (ie astra)

ive had astra before on a fixed dish so i know its possible

i think it must be because my pole is not straight (what an arse!) coz ive dont the method of switching between 1w and 30w changing the elevation on the motor and dish, which enables a decent signal on both. but it seems the further east i go the poorer the signal.

any tips on getting a good straight (ahem) pole?

dont think it help that i have a double L-bend pole to start with coz of where the dish is situated...

My System: I bet on red. If I lose, I double the bet on red again. I continue with this until I lost everything.

Muhuhuhahahahahaaaaarrrgggh

Welcome to the world of motoring Homer! I guess having all those channels on Thor will help you get a straight pole!
Anyway, next step is a membership in the dreambox section :-)

PS Gameboy you deserve a "TG helpful answer of the week award" for listing those transponders. Now where did you get this good idea??!!

It took me an age but well worth the effort.

I tried spirit levels but a plumb line worked the best.

Can you adjust the bracket on the wall? Make sure it's perfect first - I used washers between the bolts and wall.

Once the bracket is correct use the plumb line on the pole to make sure it is perfect - not close - perfect.

After that it's simple (well a bit) I was getting all the East but no West until I moved the motor/dish setup together a bit (thanks Rolfw).

Now I have lots to play around with (learn new things everyday here).

PLUMB LINE!!! GENIOUS!

I got astra now but VERY weak signal, bit more tweakin in order i think.

As far as a dreambox goes, i have considered that but decided to got for a cheap patched FTA reciever for now in a bigsat 8000 deluxe, but as soon as i got it, all the bloody channels buggered off didnt they! and patched firmware aint so readily available unfortunatly.

still, all in the name of fun i suppose.

Sounds like you're very close - my advice is to mark everything up with a felt marker so you can at least get it back to where you are now before tweeking.

Good luck and come back and tell us how you get on.

Hi guys, just going off topic a little but could you tell me what size dish I would need to get THor 1w? I currently have a 60cm dish with twin lnb bracket and from the meter in ProgDVB I get approx 75% signal str' on Astra 1B-1H etc and approx 60% on Hotbird @ 13 E. I'm located in Staffordshire, England. Many thx. Also is it possible to get the three sats on one dish with 3 lnb's or is the spread of the birds too much???

You'll be struggling with 60cm dish with three LNBs

Remember all but the central one will be weaker.

On that note you may have to have the middle on Hotbird and the other two on each side.

Why not go the way of homerjay and get a motor and 80cm dish you'll love it - promise!

It gets dark in Scotland at 4pm!!!

Hit it with a hammer - gently!!!

P.S. If your neighbours don't think you're mad then you're not a proper Satellite fan!!!
