Red face In Process of Setting Up Skystar Satellite System - HELP!

Hi all, I am in the process of setting up my Skystar 2 card and have installed it with the Technisat software I downloaded from their website (card did not come with any software).

My setup is:

Intel Celeron 2.7GHz Processor

256MB RAM

3D On Board Graphics (64MB) - no AGP slot on the board (boo hoo)

19" Iiyama Monitor (CRT)

Skystar 2 PCI card (v. 2.3?)

Soundblaster 5.1 Live Digital Soundcard

Windows XP Service Pack 1

Internet Explorer 6

Media Player 9

DirectX 9c

Technisat DVB viewer (TE?) with PVR

I want to download ProgDVB and Yankse, is there anything I should do before I attempt this (apart from install the LNB and dish which are on order!).

Very many thanks from a green member.

Hi markie
Nothing to stop you installing ProgDVB now, just put the Yankse in the ProgDVB folder. Or you could try S2emu. You'll need the latest softcam file when you're up and running. Not much else you can do until you have your dish installed.

Don't want to be negative, but you may find that your graphics chipset might not give you great results, so be prepared. It might also be fine

You can tweak the performance of the SS2 setup simply by optimising everything around it. See one of my older posts on this subject.

Also, you might find that one of the earlier driver versions works better, but only try this if you have problems.

PowerDVD version 5.0 is a good addition for playing back recorded files, and will play stuff that WMP9.0 doesn't like. It also contains some good codecs. If you're going to install this, do it before you install your sat-viewing software.

Definitely go for S2emu as opposed to Y@nkse.

STICK

More stable, faster channel switching, better support, Auto Update on Nagra built-in, used to do S2 where Y* didn't (but now gone obviously).

Thanks BGonaSTICK, any ideas which is better for Hotbird and Astra 1 satellites?

Also, anyone know what the elevation angle is for a) Hotbird 13E and b) Astra 1 (19.2E).

I will have a compass and satellite beeper to help me!

Many thanks.

Markie.

The elevation angle will depend on where you live.
Find out your coordinates from:-
http://www.heavens-above.com/countries.asp
A useful site for calculating your angles is:-

Hope this helps

Hi Markie 9999 -
Used to run an AMD K6 3-400mhz with 196mb ram and a 16mb graphics card
it could (and still can) clear all available channels.
but not quick enough to rec to HD.

Try it - you cant break it, and there are people here who have been there.

You're welcome mate.

The spirit of experimentation and finding out what works well, is the main part
of what goes on here.
