Cheap remote control solution

I have not seen much info on remote control solutions for my skystar1 so i have been having a look on the net today. Sateuropa do offer a remote control for £20 plus £70 for the interface to use it. But i have found that a simple serial port infrared reciever which can easily be made or bought http://www.zapway.de/e_index1.htm this will allow u to use any existing remote which u own and let u record macros to perform many functions on your P.C. i will let u know how i get on. If anybody else is using a remote for there skystar can u please let me know how u are getting on.

I made my own little IR device which works with a piece of software called WinLirc or Girder, which you can then use to control any application on your PC, including your DVB card software.

This site below give you a step by step guide to build your own.
http://www.lirc.org/receivers.html

The one I made only requires 6 components and other than that you only need a soldering iron.

The parts cost less than £5.00

Well worth it; can control virtually anything on your PC with almost any remote.

That looks good Genie, I think maybe even I could solder that, I might just have a go.

Go for it rolfw. I'm no expert at electronics, but I managed it in only half an hour.

The step by step instructions are very easy to follow.

The only problem I had was finding a suitable infra red sensor, but luckily I found one of the compatible ones from a local electronics component shop. There should be a list of compatible ones on that site.

If you do decide to make it, let us know how is all goes.
