Smile SkyStar 2 DVB PCI Card (newbie)

Im thinking of getting ones of these SkyStar 2 DVB PCI Cards. I need to know a few things first.

1. Do they work with analogue dishes.

2. Do they work with normal Sky Digital Dishes, and what positions.

3. What sort of channels can you pick up.

and all other information would be great.

Thanks

Hi there - to the board

1 Yes
2 Yes 28E 19E 13E and 30w is where most of the action is.
Depending on your location in England, a minidish will give you a good taste of what's going on.
As for channels - go to www.lyngsat.com and check the channels against those satellites.
Also have a good read though the rest of this section and come back with any questions.

My System: Motorised Triax 88 Dish, DP6600 VBox, Dreambox 7020S with 200gb hd, Linksys Router WRT54GS & Linksys Bridge WET54G. ADSL Internet.

Yep only digital with this card.

Another question: As the skystar 2 doesnt have a cam slot like the ss1... is there a way to use cams that is compatible with progdvb or whatever the popular software is now? ...maybe a usb interface like the 'Duolabs Cas Interface Plus MK2' - £39 - Am I barking up the right tree?

So that would take care of the analogue stuff I guess.

Dishes only really come in two types, working or not. The signal is still only high frequency RF when the dish sees it, the reciever does the clever bit and strips the information from the signal. So his dish won't care

There are 'add on units' available which can plug in to some PCI cards for use with a cam and sub card.

When you say analogue dish are you saying that you have the old type analogue lnb?if so you will need to change it to a universal type lnb to get the the higher frequency transponders.

Yes!

That's the point.

Dish doesn't matter, but if the LNB is very old, it probably needs a nice shiny new 'universal' one. LNB's can deteriorate over time as well.

With the cost of a new LNB so low, it would almost certainly be a good investment.

STICK
