Questions on softcams

Hi all......can anyone answer some questions I (and probably lots of others) have on the mysteries of using softcams/decryption in general. Apologies in advance for the basic level of these questions but they do seem valid to me.

Firslty, who creates these softcams in the first place? Does someone have some PC/software/machine somewhere that analyses satellite channels and can obtain the codes. Alternatively do the codes come from an "insider"? Actually that would explain why the T*S codes stopped recently but that's more of a guess than anything else.

Are softcams availalable for all "red" scrambled/encrypted channels. I guess probably not otherwise I would have heard/read about it but I'm more interested in why some channels are decryptable and some are not.

Following on from the question above are there different level of encryption?

What softcams are available out there at the moment. Since the demise of T*S I've spotted only a couple being generated - one generic one and one for D+. What channels would they decrypt?

By the way what did happen exactly with T*S? I read on one thread the encryption was stepped up or something like that.

Lastly, what does advantages would using a CAM/card programmer give you over a softcam? Not that I've got the first clue how to use a card programmer but I'd splash out for one if it gives more options.

That'll do for now......thanks again for the continuing technological brilliance from members of this forum. I'm sure one of you will know answers to all the above. M.

Even if people did know the answers to your first few questions, they would be unlikely to answer them on an open forum

Ostensibly this is a self help forum and the number of questions you are asking will put any member off replying to them. If you are that interested then I suggest you do some research on the web or start by reading this site

My System: pentium 4 3.06ghz with ht, 1 gb ram, ss2, 1.15m motor dish, strong srtv50

softcams come from the depths of the internet, from it's darkest corners where only the bravest dare step.

Roughly 10% of red channels are viewable without cardsharing
(cardsharing usually involves you paying money)

There are many levels of encryption, some are hacked, some are not yet hacked.

encryptions can differ:
biss- hacked 100%
viaccess- hacked up to v2.4
cryptoworks- is 'sometimes' hacked
TPScrypt (viaccess 2.6)- not yet hacked
irdeto, nagra, nagra2, mediaguard, powerVu etc- not sure
