My System: Sky Star 2 - Motorised Errr.. thats it.
Question Prog DVB recording issues. . . .

When recording a lengthy program, oh, say a movie for instance...
does anyone else suffer the lipsync problem ?
I have noticed that anything recorded after a while suffers from a time
lapse between audio and video frame.
Any ideas guys ?

Sync Probs

Yep mate I agree. Thought it was something my end.
Some channels (Taqs especially) are worse than others.

I sometimes find that when watching live and recording at the same time, the audio will somethimes go badly out of synch, but when I replay the recording back, it's fine...

At the end of a movie, do you always find the audio is ahead of the video, or vice versa?

I've posted some tips in the last day or two on how to iron out some processing deficiencies. Might be worth a go. Some work for some people, others not.

Yes i have noticed this also. It seems to happen on certain channels but that may just be a coincidence. If you reclick on the channel it seems to clear the problem. I have not checked if the lip sync problem is actually out of sync on the recording though.

I managed to fix my brightness problem on the picture
took me long enough. Its in File/Property NOT Settings/Audio and Video.
Its an easy mistake to make. IM wondering though how can i get it to record mpeg 1 as opposed to mpeg 2? do i need another codec? which one?
i want to record for longer on the mpeg file but an mpeg 2 file only gives about 30 mins which is about 700 megs and as i want to burn it to cr-rom i think i would be better using mpeg 1 as it should be smaller though maybve slight loss in picture which i can put up with, any ideas if this is possible?
thanks

mpeg2 is the naitive format of the sat stream, and it isn't possible to re-encode it into a different format in real time (too much processing power required). You'll have to record it and then convert if afterwards with any number of products. Divx and xvid formats are very good at reducing size and retaining quality. Some stand-alone DVD players will even play these formats straight off the disc, like mp3 files.

The different real-time recording formats that you can select are just different flavours of mpeg2.

Thanks BGonaSTICK for that. I am aware of divx compression but it will not work on the dvd player i need it to run on so thats no good. I suppose i could just convert the file to mpeg 1 using tempgen but it always took forever to do but now i am using a 64 bit processor so i guess it will be much faster.

cheers

Ok i have tried the conversion of the supposed mpeg 2 file in progdvb using TMPGEnc and virtualdub and they do not recognise any of the files as valid mpeg 2 files. So what are they then? If i burn the file direct using nero 5.5 it will play as an mpeg on my dvd player no problems so why not on my pc? is this a codec issue? are there any alternative recording modules for progdvb? and im still getting the explorer crash which briefly dissapears on the desktop then comes back as normal. The file is making the system unstable, is this possibly because it is still in use by the operating system perhaps in the buffer?

I don't convert mine, as I want them in the full DVD quality mpeg2 format. I use PVAStumento V2.1.0.9 for demuxing and Mpeg2Schnitt V0.6 l-b for editing.

AVIcodec is a useful little utility which will analyse your video files. Search for it on the web. It's small and free, as are the two utils above. The latter duo can be found here :-

http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/DigiTV/dvbs-soft.htm

...which also contains a goldmine of useful information on the subject, written in plain English.

Attached are the results of AVIcodec analysis of two streams recorded from T@quilla and Ki*sk.

I use and would recommend Cyberlink PowerDVD V5.0 for playback. Installation will install all the required Cyberlink codecs.

P.S. In fact, if you want to go to CD-format, this will be of more use to you :-

http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/DigiTV/pva2svcd.htm

I believe you can record straight into PVA format in ProgDVB (a basic format of MPEG2).
