Many of the SciFi programmes of the 60s onwards are simply furthering the ideas of the 'monster' movies a decade earlier, where attractive, slightly underdressed females are pitched into a hairy situation, and scream.

Yes, C. H. , tv sci fi tends to be very "King Kong".

But, there was once a period of serious tv sci fi, eg Out of the Unknown, etc.

The least known Dr who girl is probably Jean Marsh playing Sara Kingdom, in The Daleks' Master Plan, one of the best ever Dr Who stories, famously wiped by the BBC!
There used to be a web video sequence of her suddenly aging to death, via the time destructor device, a very chilling sequence! But I can't find it now, probably because the Beeb has recently "reconstructed" the entire 12 episodes, using cgi graphics, so has maybe removed it!

here's a pic: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Sarakingdom.jpg .

(let's see if that link gets blocked!).
(It wasn't blocked, but too slow, so replaced by different link!).

Rose To Go !

Will she, won't she - Seems Billie Piper is about to jump ship at the end of the second series.
She's afraid of being type-cast, that's according to the "Daily Mirror" and we all know that they wouldn't print any rubbish !

If you are not seen in any other programme, then it is quite possible to become known only as your character, but the idea of a Tardis companion being only that (K9 excluded) seems to be an idea of somebody a little short of grey matter.

Anyway I thought that the two series contract for Ms Piper had been exposed sometime mid series 1?

Are you suggesting a free for all 'Christmas stocking' list of potential TARDIS totty (with gratuitous posting of images), just to gain approval from other forum members ?

Or just improve what is already a dirty old mans thread?

hmmm .... they just seem to keep getting bigger, before long some will need "dimensional re-stabilisation" (with a "Tardisbra"?!).

No wonder the Tardis wobbles about so much, when travelling through the vortex, as it's far too top heavy.

Could tell you who I'd like to put in the Tardis, also room 101 ....

(added, disgusting personal fantasy. Each time a female time lord regenerates, she goes one cup size bigger! A big shame then, that the time lords got killed off, and The Doctor's the last one, but maybe he could, you know, ...... . . .).

A Tardisbra thats bigger on the inside than the outside makes for some interesting possibilities

It certainly does, when you consider that the Tardis is HUGELY bigger inside!

(Better stop there, or I'll be getting a red triangle).

Please no, any sudden decompression of the TARDIS during its journey and you would be peeling bathroom sealant off the console for weeks.

Just flicking though the March issue of Asias Companions Monthly - Gallifrey Edition, and these two look suitable to keep the doctor company on those long trips.

hmmm ... how about this ....

Dr Who has a sex change, then she goes back in time and meets himself, earlier version, and then becomes both it's own parents! Highly Oedipal, and makes the standard time travel paradox - shooting your own great great grandfather - look a bit tame!

There's some good Sci Fi "circular" time travel stories like that, the best and most famous being Heinlein's "by his bootstraps".

"Agreeably kooky" was Katy Manning:

But my absolute fave - quite delicious - was Wendy Padbury, and she's been missed off the poll, dammit!

She was also in horror flick "Blood on Satan's Claw", if you look around Internet there's pictures ......

After looking at post 18, Spiney may have been caught up in his own circular time story, but it looks like he may not want to escape it.

Oh no, how am I ever going to break out of the loop? (go directly to post 18, do not pass go ......).

Seriously, I like our Kate and Wend so much, I've mentioned them twice!

Oh yes oh yes, savour Katy's groovy Biba and Carnaby Street outfits, delight in Wendy's coy smiles .......

I think Wend's character Zoe was the first "technical" female assistant, instead of just being a "screamer" (she was that too!). She came from a future earth technological civilisation, and was supposed to be a "savant" lightning maths calculator (like Adric later), which The Doctor sometimes made use of.
(That is, if you discount The First Doctor's "grandaughter" Susan, Carol Ann Ford, who presumably was a time lord, hence fairly knowledgable ....).

When the doctor does eventually get a sex change, will she then have a "toy boy/hunk" type of male assistant?

How would they get a male assistant to scream as effectively when the monster appears?
The inside of the TARDIS would quickly start resembling a student dig.

Ah, well, maybe they'll get some humour out of a male companion's "macho" approach, whereas the female Dr Who will display quiet feminine competence.

Of all the Dr Who females, Lalla was the one most into wearing hats, partly because she looks so very good in them. With that face/figure, could easily have been a fashion model, parading down catwalks!

Also had a particular knack of mostly looking entirely innocent, then suddenly flashing an occasional wicked smile. Useful trick for an actress, shame she didn't continue, but maybe didn't like the parts this was getting her .....

Aristocrat gal Lalla Ward
In Dr Who played aTime Lord
But then took up knitting
Which doesn't seem fitting.
Perhaps she just got very bored?

Mind you, Lalla's since become a one person book factory, must now be making much more money from that than she ever did from acting.

Generally, being in Dr Who is bad for an actor's career, as then eveybody just says "Oh look, it's Dr Who playing Hamlet!" (or whatever), so getting work can become difficult.

Meanwhile, Wendy ....
