Ill have to get the old photo album out.....

Is this another 'ignore Peter Cushing as the doctor' ? Jill Curzon was his assistant in the movie 2015 Invasion of the Daleks.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"

Ah Peri...

Oh yes, she wouldn't have needed a lifejacket in a sinking boat.

Despite that, and being totally unswayed by any photos, I voted for Katy Manning. Must be sonething to do with how old I was at the time...

My System: Pace 2200 Sky digibox with ftv card, Comag SL65 FTA sat receiver, 40cm Sky minidish, Setpal terrestrial receiver (for free uk tv only!).

my fave was Katy Manning, the most "kooky" assistant, who wore clothes from Biba, and famously posed nude with a dalek (the dalek was nude too!).

Hmmmm ......

I also rather liked Wendy Padbury (Zoe). Even as a young lad, I could quite clearly see she had an "interesting top half" (and the rest of her was quite interesting, too, especially in that black one-piece costume!).

See: www.geocities.com/hollywood/lot/9501/zoe4.jpg .

Then, she obligingly appeared topless in Blood on Satan's Claw (no doubt a bit of googling will find some images!).

(Sorry, Wendy, high "oggle factor" here, but you did these things, and entered many an impressionable young man's dreams!).

Here she is quite recently: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Wendypadbury.jpg

And here's that famous costume: www.sixtiescity.com/Who/padbury.jpg .

Any news on whether RS is going to be the new Doctor Who companion?

Perhaps wearing the last photo's uniform?

Rachael Stevens, who she? More importantly, can she scream?

There's nothing quite like a Dr Who girl dashing round a corner at beakneck speed, suddenly finding a dead end corridor, then turning round to face this week's approaching monster, and letting out a very long scream .......

(Not sure what this reveals about me ......).

Smile tidied up!

Then there was Nicola Bryant (Peri). Being somewhat top heavy, she had difficulties getting in and out of the Tardis, squeezing through the small door! But once inside, she produced a rather interesting 3D effect on most flat tv screens (no special viewing glasses required). Luckily, the older Tardis console was below waist height, otherwise she couldn’t have turned round!

See: www.sfbrain.co.uk/sf/drwho/nicola2adj.jpg .

(fortune city disabled above previous weblink, so that's a similar one!).

In fact, top heaviness is must-have for true sci fi heroines (brains too, of course, but you don’t notice those at first!). Looking further afield, there’s Jolene Blalock (Tpol).
(Ignore pixi ears, look further down!).

See: www.trek5.com/images/wallpaper/tpol03/tpol-home03.jpg .

Before her was Nichelle Nichols (Uhura). Here she is, showing her “prominent part” in Star Treck:

www.poster.net/nichols-nichelle/nichols-nichelle-photo-nichelle-nichols-6201940.jpg .

Then there’s Rachel Welch, who was in many sci fi type films. Here she is, with her “large supporting cast” (completely invisible in this picture!).

www.thedigitalbits.com/articles/miscgfx/covers3/onemillionyearsbcdvd.jpg.

For almost 40 years, Rachel has been saying “but I’m a serious actress”. Yes, and a good one, but why wear unnecessary clothing under those hot studio lights?

Oops, how could I forget Jeri Ryan (7 of 9) .... maybe too many large women, and just one small brain to store them in? Anyway, here she is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Jryan3.jpg .

(When she was on Voyager's bridge, she needed a "personal containment field", otherwise there was no room left for anyone else!).

The serious point here (ahem!) is, Dr Who was at first "genuine" sc fi - despite also being childrens' tv and general entertainment. It's only later on that the female leads became "so prominent" (whereas, Star Treck had quite a "cheezy" aspect right from the start).
