RUMOUR - RTE to go fta on 28E

Theres an interesting rumour doing the rounds over on the DS forum that all 4 RTE channels will go fta in a few weeks time - but regionalised so only Freesat viewers in Ulster get them!

Full manual tuning details will be posted if it happens - and remember - you read it here first!

Hope this is true but think it may be the new channel originally scheduled for launch on Paddys day 09. It was provisionally called Diaspora Tv and is to include content from RTE1, Network2 and TG4. Probably wont be exclusive to the 28.2e satellite too.

Just found this _http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/ireland/2008/0317/1205706589084.html

Have to admit Im dubious about this one, as satellitedave says there are too many rights issues involved in the overspill into the UK. (Setanta hold many of the UK rights for sports carried on RTE).

As tomthebomb says someone may have got hold of the wrong end of the stick with regards to RTE International which will carry a selection of programming from the RTE channels buth without the problematic rights programming (so no sport for those of you hoping for GAA).

However we will see.

If this is true would anyone be able to receive them by entering a northern Ireland post code instead of their own ?

I apologise for my ignorance, but what do you mean by entering a northern Ireland post code instead of their own? Entering this where?

I have not used a Freesat receiver, but I think that during initial set up you put in your postcode so that your box gets the regional BBC & ITV channels in the EPG

My System: Fortec Lifetime Classic (non Sky) with 65 cm dish which was originally used for an old Nokia Sat 800 Analogue Box.

I've not been on this Forum for a while, but looking at others. As far as RTE is concerned, does that mean that if RTE is free to air, I would not need a Freesat box but could receive it on my Technomate 1000D Super, on which I can receive everything Freesat can do, and I can receive at present all the regions of BBC and ITV and Channel 4, except Channel 5 - or will there be some kind of encryption which only a Freesat box will get?

If RTE is truly free to air, what might be the frequency and when - does anybody know?

Hiya diapson how you doing?

Inthe unlikley event they go fta then any digital receiver would be ok to watch them on - there wont be any encryption changes sinply because they would then be unavailable to Sky boxes. Presumably the frequency would stay the same as it is now - 10744H.

Personally I dont think its going to happen - theres just too many problems with rights issues for them. As far as Im concerned the best we can hope for is RTE International

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

That is for Freesat receivers, not Sky digiboxes.
