Sky card change

Has Sky made it official about the card change? I had a call today from someone who says she saw a message about a card change on her digibox. I havent been round yet and I was wondering if she was mistaken by"insert new card" or "wrong card in box" ?

My System: Sky +...

Does this mean the old boxes with old cards wont work? Only Ive got that basic non subscription setup in my garage - more for the radio than anything else to be fair. However when I take the card out I still get most of the radio stations so hopefully wont be a big drawback.

Does this have anything to do with the ability to run the older cards with PCMCIA modules in other set top boxes ?
