New Sky freesat Cards

The new Sky cards for freesat can you only get these if you have another subscription to sky? Or are they available without subscription. I live in Spain and wondered whether they are available here?

AFAIK if you order a Freesat From Sky card then you'll get a new style white card.

Channel 4 is FTA on both $ly and Freesat. You don't need a card for your Digibox for this. They are the same transmission.

Five is encrrypted on the Digibox and FTA on Freesat as they use different transmissions. Unless you tune in the FTA Five in the "Other Channels" section of your Digibox (a clunky way of doing it) you will need your card for this.

Not possible for Irish transmissions - theres no such thing as FreesatfromSky in Ireland. You can get one for Northern Ireland, but have to have access to a sutable address to get the card mailed to.

Difficult to be precise as they are done in an order not know to us - but I'd doubt if you have more than a month or two left.

Freesat Cards From Sky

I have just spent over an hour trying to get a new freesat card from Sky. Several of their own staff even stating that Sky don't even issue them !!! I was given a succession of hi-cost telephone numbers to ring - all wrong and several even as advertised on their own website - and none actually getting me a card. Eventually though bloody mindedness and complaining I did manage to get put through to the freesat department (even though several staff had previously said they could not do this!!) and got hold of perhaps the only sane person there who arranaged to send me a new freesat card for the usual fee of £19.37. I think Sky simply don't want to supply these cards as they get nothing from it - apart from oodles of money from us poor people trying to phone them on their high cost systems!

The correct number is 08442 410 595.

The mainstream part of Sky is entirely unrelated (as you've discovered!).

You are right that they don't make money from it, though: It's an obligation they have inherited, but the £20 (nominal!) fee doesn't cover production, issue and database management.

I had my old blue card replaced by a white card a couple of months ago so I shoved the blue card into my Dreambox - a couple of nights ago I discovered its still updating its authorisations They are into October at the moment.

The cards will definitely die once the 0961 CAID's stop being transmitted (once the card swap is finished) but it looks like the cards are usable until then in non Sky boxes.

The spare cards are not usable in Sky digiboxes - they are disabled for use in any other digibox

New White Sky Freesat Cards

When I got my blue freesat card - all I did was put it nto the digibox and afrter a while it all updated and I was able to watch the range of channels - however Sky said today I would need to ring them to activate my new white card once I received it -but I don't have a telephone line connected and they know that so somehow they must activate it over the air! - or am I being told a load of rubbish again?

The blue card white card swap isnt even sent over the air - the box does it all automatically.

You dont need the phone line connected - mine wasnt when the new white card arrived.

Make sure the digibox has been on for at least 24 hours prior to the new card arriving. Remove the blue card. Insert the white card wait 5 minutes for the box to do whatever it does and away you go.

They're not trying to catch you out!

You don't need a phone line to operate Freesat, but it is true that a newly issued Card must be activated.

This is done by phoning the number provided with the Card and they do an exercise similar to Pairing. ie They take your Box Serial Number and the Card Number, but purely in order to queue the activation signal sent via Satellite to your Box to actually Activate the Card.

Of course, unlike a Subs Card, once activated it will work in any Box.

This is normal procedure and the obligation to call is nothing to do with any requirement (there isn't one) for an operational phone line to be used in connection with the Box.

Edit: Reading between the lines, and bearing in mind what Analoguesat has said, I suspect your Yellow House Card was acquired other than direct from Sky or FreesatfromSky. ie Already activated. (eg Ex-Subs, Ebay item etc)

If so, my own diatribe applies.

If not, AS's does.

We've got it covered!

New Sky Card

Hi Guys and thanks to the last two posts - My Blue sky card was supplied when I bought the box so I don't know how it actually came from sky. As I am getting the new card from Sky and they have no actual knowledge of my blue card re its ownership I guess I have go along with Tivù's infomration. Thanks again.

New Freeview Card

New white card arrived yesterday but I could not actiate it on my Pace 2600 with EPG 3.4.4b. Was able to use my old Amstrad running EPG 3.7.6. and all worked fine. Card now also works in Pace.

Have been waiting almost a month now for Pace EPG to update and tried forced updataes but all to no avail - will just have to wait I suppose but it does not seem to affect the freeview service so am not too bothered anyway.

Still thinking of a new non sky freesat box to compare with my Humax Foxstat HD - any suggestions for a good box for Spain?

i have had a 2600 on for over 4 weeks now and no update..but I know that they can take some time to update...someone said it took 7 weeks for their to update!

the Humax Freesat boxes are really good in our area...
as are manhatten plazas...I have seen mine perform as good (if not slightly better) than a pace 2600!

I agree and I find the Humax just as sensitive as the Pace 2600 but it is a little unselective compared with Pace - e.g. on some strong transponders on my 2.4 dish the Humax cannot (as cannot the Page D430), resolve some channels without an attenuator in line but the Pace has no such problems yet still gets all the channels.

can find no such issues with or without an attenuator on my humax on my 1.8 in gandia
but on my 430n an attenuator does help a bit with the astra 2north beams (especially in the afternoon weak period for north beams), but found that it looses bbc2 about 1/2 hour earlier than without an attenuator!!!

PAce and Humax on Freesat

Maybe it is the large dish which provides too strong a signal for the Humax! - its really only on one transponder and the only thing the missus watches on that is Zone Thriller so no real loss anyway!!! - The 430 does the same but the 2600 is perfect - I don't lose BBC2 on either the Humax or the Pace - the only chananel that goes down is ITV2+1 which breaks up a bit on some evenings after 8:30ish
