My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

I think that the simple answer to that is that your initial impression was correct.

To get linked to Astra2 (28.2 ° East) from Florida he will have to drill a serveral
thousand miles long hole through planet earth

Calculate Satellite Look Angle

If he wants just another NDS Videoguard system he should:
  • contact Dave
  • ask for a HU/P3 viewing card with a minimum package
  • order an Unlooper or HU-Loader from the Canadian Card Cleaners or a similar site

and install Cryptonite and Extreme HU on his PC

Lightbulb Former ASkyB

Until 1998 there existed a company named ASkyB in the USA owned by Rupert Murdoch,
which was sold to Echostar (Dishnetwork)

There are now two major Satellite TV providers in the USA:
  • DirecTV (commonly referred to as Dave which uses Videoguard
  • Echostar (Dishnetwork) which uses Nagravision for encoding (very
much like Polsat and Hispasat in Good Old Europe)

Your friend in Flrorida may train his dish for instance on the Echostar 7 satellite to receive
what remained from ASkyB
