Bizzare ... existing radio stations should keep their current number prefixed with a 0. This system above will cause mass confusion.

An alternative would be to make them available on both the new number and the old number prefixed 0 for an interim period until listeners have got used to hearing the new number via on-air publicity.

My SKY box is connected to my surround sound system and I automatically press 908 to get my favorite station without even switching on the TV. Now I am going to have to go via the EPG until I can learn the new number

You press "0" to access the radio numerical menu. You can see it now, but its not fully active. You get a speaker icon and a 3 digit number to key in. You will soon learn the new numbers.

They cant use the old and new numbers in parallell - many of the radio number series are being reallocated to tv channels on the same day. (850 - 874 is going into the new gaming & dating section)

On the day of the change 908 will give you Friendly TV, not Classic FM!

If you access the same radio stations regularly it doesn't take long to remember the new nos.

What's confusing is there is BBC Radio London the local station, and Big L Radio London although Big L is a reincarnation of the former pirate station, and plays some great music. The other is more of a talk format.

No. The TV station numbers are 3 digits. So you can still have 850 for a TV station and 0850 for the radio station that used to live there.

It also seems bizarre that after BBC Radio 5 comes Classic FM not BBC radios 6 and 7. Surely this is an ideal time for them to rationalise such things.

Mmm didnt word that last post very well. Yes the existing numbers are staying. No you cant reuse them in parallel eg 0850 / 850 as much of the 3 digit number series is being reallocated at the same time as the radio number changes. To run them in parallel, you would have to have 2 seperate number shuffles some weeks apart, which would cause double the confusion.

It also seems bizarre that after BBC Radio 5 comes Classic FM not BBC radios 6 and 7. Surely this is an ideal time for them to rationalise such things.
have to agree, but epg numbers are allocated in the order that stations joined the platform.Classic FM and others wouldnt appreciate getting bumped down the list just so all the BBC services could be together. And what happens if the BBC launches Radios 8 & 9 in the future?
