Astra 28.2 FTV in Naples Italy

Hi,

My sister has obtained a box and FTV card from friends that have now left Naples. They have set up everything and had someone out yesterday to align the dish.
They can receive Sky news and a couple of other basic channels, but not any of the BBC, ITV and C4 etc.
I discovered that the FTV card has not been used for well over three months and it's my guess that the card has been deactivated. Will leaving it in for a few days until they are sent an update be enough to reactivate the card or will it require something else to get it going again?

Kevin

My System: 3.1m Famaval on 28.2, 1.5m offset on 19.2e, 13e & 7e all mixed in a spaghetti of wires and going into a dream thingy.

BBC/ITV are FTA therefore if they can't get a picture then chances are the dish is too small or not aligned correctly and they have no signal. Did the installer mention if they could receive anything off Astra 2D? If the dish is big enough then perhaps they are not selecting the correct BBC or ITV - Some come in stronger than others.

C4 is FTV so if they are getting an upgrade screen then the dish is big enough and the channel should come in soon. If they already get C5, Sky 3 etc then the problem may be somewhere else. What digibox are they useing? what size is the dish?
If they are getting the signal 'no signal being received' then the channel cannot be received with the present setup.

Cheers

Nick

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

BBC/ITV will need a whacking great dish in Naples - probably something well over 3m. Southern Italy is in a very poor signal strength area for 2D

Astra 2D?

He said he has had the dish aligned to 28.2 will that be better or worse than the Astra 2D?

Also, I think the dish they were given was the standard Sky dish. If this is the case, how did the people they got the dish off receive FTV channels before?

I will need to get more specific info off my brother in law I think.

Astra 2D is just one of five co-located satellites parked at 28e. Four of them give good signals across much of Europe, so C4 C5 & Sky 3 plus FTV offshoots & timeshifts should work fine on reasonable sized dishes.

My System: 1.25m offset dish for Astra2 28deg., 1.2m dual feed for Astra1 and Hotbird, Thomson Sky HD, Humax HDCI2000, Dragon CAM, Invacom 0.3 twin lnb, Dell Dimension 4400 and Inspiron 1525, 1 meg broadband

In Napoli you need a 1.2m dish at least to receive Channel 4, anything smaller and the signal will break up when it's cloudy or raining.
Analoguesat is right, huge monster dish needed for BBC reception, exact size unknown because to the best of my knowledge no-one has it south of Rome.
No probs with channel 5, you'd probably get it with an 80cm.
regards
D.

hi,
astra 2 d can not be received at all, we have tested a 4 meter dish and no go.
1.20 is ok in the naples area for most channels if you have a sky uk box and a card, if they left the card is probaly deactivated.
there are some free channels on astra 2 d cnn news is one
we have installed 1000 systems over that last 15 years
