Sky breakup problems

I have had sky reception ok on an Amstrad box for several years. Lateley it has been breaking up especially on Virgin, Sci Fi and Eurosport.

I have changed the LNB but it is still the same, I thought that it could be the dish position but first tried it on a larger 1m dish and it still had problems. I tried a Dreambox and CAM and it could receive them but it still had some picture artifacts.

The question is, is there a problem with the transmissions from Sky or could it just be the Amstrad decoder (I did not think this because BBC/ITV etc are all fine).

Many Thanks

No known problems with transmissions.

It is possible your cabling is degraded by physical damage or water ingress. This can show itself by giving variable results at different frequencies.

That said, you say you tried the Box on a different Dish - presumably that was on a different cable run rather as well?

The two systems are on different cables which are roughly the same length (but go to different rooms).

I am trying to get a relatives box so I can try that as it may still be dish alignment (but I would have thought that the 1m dish on the Dreambox would be more than adequate for Sky test).

Based in Sheffield, Uk. Problems started approx 2 months ago on a few channels but now spreading. Changed LNB to a new version a few weeks back and it made it better for most channels but now starting to get worse again. BBC always ok but Sky 1 etc very jerky and lcoking up with still picture but still sound

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

I would opt for the Amstrad giving up the ghost, possibly tied to slight dish misalignment.

I don't have Sports Extra but Hallmark is certainly bad (breaks up and then says "there is a technical fault with this channel", to recover I simply move back t o BBC1 and wait approx 15 seconds).

Interesting because we have a problem over here with skysportsnews/extra, hallmark,eurosport2 and paracomedy2. All share the same frequency 12.148H and we suspect interference from Arabsat or Badr which transmits on the same frequency and we are under their beam.

Just an update.

Took my Amstrad receiver to my sisters and tried it on her setup (which could get the channels I could no longer receive). Worked even there worse so even though the original problem had the symptoms of bad alignment/lnb it actually turns out to be the receiver (indeed when got it back home I lost some more channels and these reappeared as the unit was left on - possibly as it heats up).
