Lost freesat signal,28.2E

I have a 80cm dish with quad lnb setup. One lnb gives Hotbird and the other usually does freesat on 28.2,but it has suddenly dissapered. The hot bird signal is still fine, and as the lnb`s are on a fixed bracket,I cant really see how its possible to lose the signal on one but not the other.Just getting "No satellite signal recieved" message, have tried moving the dish slightly but dont want to move too much in case i lose hotbird signal,Ive also check cable connections etc, which all look ok,really cant work out what the problem is.Is it possible the astra lnb has died? or maybe the sky digibox itself is faulty?

My System: virgin v+ additional stb 10mb broadband freesat hd

lnbs do fail but then again boxs fail aswell

you could try plugging the satellite reciever you have connected to hotbird into the astra2 feed and see if you can get a signal from astra2 if you can loud and clear then proberbly the box

if not then eather lnb has failed or moved if you have your dish focused on any other than astra2 then the signal will be a bit lower if it has moved a small amount that can lose all signal instead of moving dish try just moving the astra 2 lnb

Yep, should be easy to diagnose.

Try the Hotbird LNB in the 28E spot, and the Hotbird receiver on the 28E spot. If both together still don't make it work, then the LNB has somehow moved.

OK,thanks for the advice guys.I tried connecting the hotbird reciever to the astra feed, and scanned for channels and found nothing. So I guess that means the sky digibox is ok,and the problem must be the astra lnb?I looked at swapping over the lnb`s but it looked too complicated as the connectors were different and I`m not sure its even possible. It looks very unlikely that the astra lnb has moved,so the fault must lie in the lnb, correct? But before I buy a new one,is there any other way to test the suspect lnb?

Connectors should be the same 'F' type.

Just swap out the LNb with a new one, cheap as chips. Unclamp the suspected faulty LNb and place the new one in it's place and connect up. Don't play around with the dish alignment but make a general note of the skew setting and position of the 28e feed before pulling it off.

Assuming that when you did the scan, you had some valid transponders for Astra 28E in the scan list, then yes, sounds like the LNB has gone up the spout.

You can of course, try your Sky digibox on someones elses Sky dish if available. (remember to unplug receiver before disconnecting though)

Sorry, when I said connectors,I didnt mean the F type,I meant the way the lnb attaches to dish.I have an old sky minidish, could I remove the lnb on that and replace the suspect one with it? Again though,I cant see how it would fit on as its also different fitting.

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. My lovely little lappy, HP Omnibook 6100

$ly minidishes have LNBs specially tailored for them and you shouldn't use their LNBs on normal dishes and vice-versa.

...even assuming you can get them to fit!

The minidish LNBs push into the LNB support arm. Regular dish LNBs are held in a clamp of some kind.

Update on this ..I swapped over the lnbs, and they both worked on hotbird box,so it wasnt that, also I tried the sky digibox on friends dish and it worked ok,so that meant it had to be dish or lead.Started checking lead, and found there was a join in it near dish which had tape around that had got rain in,wire was all corroded etc, sorted that out and all is ok again!Cheers for advice guys
