Coming Back to Sky; = new contract?

Dear all,
Apologies if this has been touched on, or covered comprehensively before, but I'm about to get my old Sky Card (now an FTV card) paired up with a new Sky + box. I am going to take out a Sky subscription, however; I'm an ex-Sky customer from approx. 4 months ago and Sky have informed that I'm still on their system and that all I have to do is call them to pair my card with my new box. They could not however, give me a straight answer as to whether or not this would require me to plug it in to a telephone line. I have absolutely no intention of running a telephone lead ALL the way down to my telephone socket downstairs, so I was wondering if anybody could clear that up for me please?

Many thanks.

If you have already seen out your original 1 year contact that box is now free from all sky restraints. If you got your new Sky+ box from Sky then you will have got it at a discount and for this they say you must keep the box connected for 12 months to an operational phone line. If you did not buy it from Sky then you have no problems.

For multiroom subs both boxes must be connected to phone line at all times or you will be charged 2 full subs(mine has not been connected for well over a year and not been double charged yet)

It is an interesting subject as i hve been asked somthin similar. my mate has a room in his loft and it is a very big house. he has two telephone points in the house and has no intention of running a cable up the stairs, cant say i blame him.

He told me that when you take out the subscription you can pay a one of fee to never have the box connected, i think he said about £20.
If this is not true then i am sorry for the bad advice.

The other alternative is to just swap the boxes so each is connected every other day or somethin like that. you can understand why they do it though it does not take a genius to realise you could in theory get a multiroom package and give one to you mate etc.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

The single "no Telephone" fee does not apply with multiroom, with which both boxes require a telephone connection.

With a single box installation, I know of many subscribers who have removed thephone connection after initial set up, never to reconnect.
