My System: Looking for first time set up help
Balcony is North facing - is there a solution ?

Firstly I am sorry if I am posting in the wrong section, but I have literally spent hours searching this and other forums for answers and have not found what I want to know.

Basically I am based in Geneva, Switzerland and want to install a Freesat system primarily to get UK channels - was going to buy Humax Fox and a 60-80 cm dish and place on my balcony as I live in an apartment building.

Now I have discovered having bought a compass that it probably won't work as my living room balcony is north facing -If I read the compass correctly it is facing N57 W and I have experimented swivelling a broom to S28.2 W for Astra 2 and I don't think it will work as there is no direct line without obstacles.

I have a south facing balcony off one of the bedrooms -S24E, which I imagine would work - but the issue I have is that it is approx 25 meters from the TV set and I would have to drill multiple holes and cable though the bedroom and hallway to the living room which I do not want to do as I am only renting and here in Switzerland you have to make the place 100% good on departing an apartment.

Therefore I would appreciate any suggestions on how I might use the living room balcony or somehow wirelessly send the signal to a receiving in the living room from the bedroom balcony.

Thank you for any guidance you can give.

Hello

Welcome to the forum Need TV

Well Astra 2 is actually 28.2/5 East of South but if your readings are correct the north balcony that you have is almost 180 degrees different to what you need. The south facing balcony sounds ideal but you cannot do anything about the cable, as you cannot make if wireless since the voltage has to be supplied to the lnb to switch from High to low band and H to V etc. So it is a good quality satellite cable or no TV. Why not put your lounge in the south facing room instead?

Thanks Topper
Unfortunately as the living room is immediately off the entrance door - I am unable to swap the rooms around.

With regards to using the bedroom balcony is there any posibility of say having the receiver in the bedroom and then somehow wirelessly sending the signal to the Tv in the living room ?

Cheers

It won't work North facing, it will have to go on the south facing balcony.

Maybe you can figure out a non destructive way of routing the cable, maybe with self adhesive skirting board mounted conduit.

You can also use up to one flat RG6 section, but not on every doorway as these things attenuate heavily.

Fibre systems are also available now from at last one German Sat shop, but are quite expensive.

You can get wireless video senders. 2.4GHz or 5.8GHz, they can also be used to extend the remote control.

Forgive if I do not fully understand your reply.
Are you suggesting that I would put say a Humax receiver box in the bedroom immedately inside from the dish and then use one of these video wireless senders you suggest to transmit the signal to the living room?

Is there a particular video wireless sender whcih you would suggest?

Cheers

I once carried out an installation in central London where there was no solution south

Managed to put a dish up (about 50% bigger than needed ) and bounced the signal off the block of apartments - a nice glass building - to the North.

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"

Yes, that it what I was suggesting exactly.

Unfortunatley I have only tried one of these to help out a customer, I can't remember the make, but he got it from Ebay. It was a 5.8GHz one so as not to interfere with or be with interefered by wireless broadband. The picture was a little grainy on different floors, but on the same level it looked good, with the remote working well too.
