Sky Card Change In Spain

I know that Sky has started the process of replacing the viewing cards from the blue one with yellow house to what ever!!

My question is this, will this mean that when they stop the old one then the millions of brits that are not in the UK will be unable to get Five Five USA and Fiver???

Does anyone know??

I know they used to sell them for £20, will they be selling the new ones as well???

Its bad enough trying to get a decent signal (particularly in the rain) why does sky keep mucking about with it all???

cheers

My System: 1.8m PF Dish, most sky and freesat recivers, 80cm on Illusion motor and Dreambox DM7025, TDT

some people have been reporting that when they have ordered a freesatformsky card recently the were still being sent blue one and not the new white ones... so who knows what skys plans for the freesatfromsky card are.

five is available for free - scan 10773h 22 5/6 - its the freesat version of five - its on the same frequency as bbc2 so reception will be as per bbc2.

maybe five will make their other channels free to air also - and in doing so (if space is avauilable) move their channels to astra 2d, but for expats reception wil depend on which frequecny they use - a nice strong astar 2d frequency like bbc ci, or a weker horizontal one like bbc2.

Any cards purchased in the last 3 years should be replaced free of charge (sent to the original address the card was registered at of course) Older ones will expire and be useless.

Its quite possible FSFS will be discontinued in the not too distant future anyway - theres no need for it now there is BBC Freesat. Depends wheter Sky can be persuaded to give up some of their capacity on 2D

I know this may sound rediculous, but what are the chances of still being able to receive fiver and five usa after the change over.

Possible the change over will affect subscription channeld and have no affect on free to view.

This is my ideal scenario however i do appreciate that it is unlikely.

any thoughts anyone????

My Sky card is at least 7 years old. Will that also be replaced? If so it will be sent to my old UK address where if I pick it up and bring it over to Italy will it automatically work in my Sky box?

Your sky card is 5 or 6 years old - the last card swap was about 2003

If you subscribe yes your card will be replaced and will be sent to the registered address associated with the card..

Is the card swop being carried out because of the thousands of pirate cards available???

Surely they will pirate the new cards so its just increasing the revenue of the "dodgy" SKY installers!!!

Although I have not been directly offered one I hear that for €250 you get all the packages and if it will last another 5 years maybe sky need to rethink their strategy.

Has anyone else heard about these cards or are they an Urban Ledgend????

I am wondering if these card changes have anything to do with the new EPG system Sky is about to introduce?

most satellite providers change their cards every so often...normally to upgrade to "the next level" of encryption.

or maybe just to ensure we all know what the new sky logo looks like!

Could be for several reasons and we may never know fully, but I wouldn't be surprised if when all cards are replaced and the new encryption is brought on line, that card sharing becomes difficult.

Regarding the elusive pirate cards, just consider whether you have seen one, or whether someone reliable you know has one, has seen one, or has been offered one. Also how these cards only appear to be used by people who are not part of the satellite forum scene and keep silent about them, when we all know how quickly things like this spread when they appear.

Typically with the OnDigital cards, within a year Britain was saturated with them, people can't help but boast down the pub about the amazing card which gives them free subscription TV.

Quite so!! ("we may never know fully"). And who cares? I think it wouid be virtually impossible to decode SKY signals cheaply - might be possible using expensive PC and software.

The cards are pirated using the same tecnology they use to copy credit cards.

It is always a friend of a friend of a friend, hence the original question!!! do they exist??

Nothing whatsoever to do with that.

The new epg is only being rolled out to HD boxes - SD boxes dont have sufficient onboard memory to run it.

Its already launched on some HD models

No. Theres enough old hands on this forum that someone would have seen one in action by now and mentioned it.

"Pirate sky" always turns out to be via cable delivery not via satellite.

Well I doubt that is correct since they only program the magnetic stripe when cloning credit cards, they have not managed to program the chip and pin cards yet, they get the details and then use them on line to purchase expensive items

My System: none yet, starting

Can I confirm that the new card is pre-configured to the box that sky know you have? The 'please insert new card' message on the channels is becoming really
annoying - appearing every few minutes. I'll be in reception of the new card next week, but I'm hoping I won't have to lug the HD box back to the UK the next time I'm over.
thanks in advance

Its definitely preconfigured to the previous card since anyone who has more than one card - eg multiroom - gets some information as to which card a particular replacement is for as they are sent seperately.

I doubt its configured to a box - far too many folk with just the entertainment packs just swap the boxes when a box fails and dont bother getting the card re-paired to the new box as its not necessary.

My old Sky box broke 2 years ago and was replaced by a new one by myself. Sky dont know that and according to their system Ive still got an old Grundig
