My System: Sky+ Sky Multiroom Apple iMac
Sky+ Input Signal not working

Hi everyone,

after a thunderstorm a couple of weeks back, I noticed that the Sky picture was breaking up a fair bit and I was getting the 'No Satellite signal Received' message a fair bit too.

As this seems to happen a lot, I took no notice, but after a few days we found a lot of recordings were failing.

I eventually found out that the Input 2 had no signal and was not locked. I assumed it was the Sky+ box, but when i swapped over the aerials, Input 2 worked fine and it was Input 1 that now had no signal and was not locked.

So the problem is obviously with the cabling or perhaps the LNB?
I haven't a clue, basically, so how do I go about diagnosing the problem, without first paying Sky £65 to come out and have a look at it?

We're still finding that the picture on the working Input is still breaking up quite a bit, but we also have Multiroom, and that is absolutely fine.

Cheers in advance for any suggestions.

Could be either one of the ports on the LNb, cable itself or any connectors and joins in the downlead. Work back from the connector on the receiver to the LNb. Remake connections first, then try swapping ports on LNb to eliminate the other.

Cheers, I'll give it a go!

By the way, how do you disconnect the cables from the LNB?
Do they screw out?

Yes they should be connected with an F-connector

Right, I swapped over the cables in the LNB and the second aerial into the Sky+ box still didn't work, so I imagine it must be the cable itself, or the connectors on either end?

So I take it my next step would be to remake the connections on that cable?

And if it's still the same, then the cable needs replacing?

It certainly is pointing towards that

Yes, try the connectors but also check to see if there aren't any joins in the cable run that have corroded (tape joins are a givaway)

I'll have a look tonight, thanks.

I take it I'd be better off getting a local repair man out than calling up Sky if I need a new cable? Or could I possible do it myself?!

Yes, if your comfortable with ladders, you could tackle it yourself; it's fairly straight forward
