question on slingbox, can anyone help??

hi guys , can someone explain how the slimbox exactly works??
i am aware u need broadband on both ends , is it correct??
say for instance, if i got broadband in the uk and in italy and i want to watch the uk channels when i am in italy how do i get it connected?? is the box staying in uk or in italy??
do i pay montly fees??
how do u watch channels, on pc or tv??
how do u change channels, i.e. program guide and so on ??
can someone illustrate how exactly works and if can be connected easily by the user or you need a proper professional set-up or installation??
thanks all

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

Its a Slingbox. It takes the av signals from a receiver / dvd etc, compresses them, then squirts them via broadband connections to a remote location.

You need decent upload speeds at the home address (in reality a meg upload speed) and decent download at the remote location.

You can buy slingcatchersd to watch on a tv, although if you dont want the extra expense then its on a pc.

Various places sell them - about a hundred quid.

My System: Zone1, DSI8215 SkyHD, Thomson DSI4214, TF5000CI, Dreambox DM800 HD PVR - Nab BH0.12, TM-5200D, Gibertini 104cm, SNH-031, 36v Actuator, Vbox-II, 42°E to 30°W, Sling Media, Televes H45 Digital Processing Analyser, Satlook Micro+G2 NIT, Rover SDM 1s

At the remote location you download the sling media player to your pc, log on with finder Id and you'll have remote access to your AV source (digibox etc).

Simple, reliable and it works.

My System: 2 $ky boxes DB 7020 tech 1500 db500s

been using mine for a year now and no problems, got it connected to freeview box in the uk now but before that to a sky box.
When you nstall it you are given the option as to the type of box and you get an interactive rempote on the pc screen to change channels.

Put it like this - my upload is about 380kbps and whilst its ok for demonstrating the concept you wouldnt want to watch anything at that upload speed.....

I thought that the Slingbox had built-in Freeview?

Do you mean Freesat?
