My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

Sounds entirely plausible.

Its the best we've got so far!

And if you think that could be evil believe me I can come up with some exceedingly nasty ideas of how to block out Mediterranean reception of the UK channels.

It doesn't look as though SES Astra are buying Boeing/Hughes platforms anymore.

Other manufacturers can make tight spotbeam craft without using Boeing spinner craft - several recent sats have had tight spots fitted for particular markets

Apart from 2D and 3A (both Boeing spinners) what other satellites do SES Astra own that have a similar spot beam? Also it will be interesting to see what the 3B footprint is like when it is launched later in the year.

What other satellites (not Astra) have spot beams tighter than 2D?

SES Astra - none currently. cant remember what SES have in the rest of the fleet atm.

Both Protostar 1 & 2 have pretty tight spots - 2 and 3 respectively. And both up for auction in October after Protostar went bust!

Damn, Lyngsat have removed the footprint maps for those satellites, and protostarsat website don't show any spot beams, only beams that cover huge areas.

You have forgotten our library:

Footprint maps - the index

Yes the Indian beam is pretty big but the PS2 Phillipines spot is reasonably small. Slew it northwest and the UK, & Iceland get decent coverage closing out Greece etc.!

Havent been able to find the technical specs for the Protostars so I dont know if the frequency coverage is suitable or if it overlaps with the EB1 channels

Thanks for the maps. I don't know what dish size that white line represents, but, that beam is bigger than it seems. It stretchs from about 25N 121E, to about 2N 128E, that's over 2600 km top to bottom.
