Exclamation Cable run problems solved for the fringe?

INVACOM have brought out a new LNB that uses up to fibre optic cable (up to 10 km) to send its signal to up to thirty two "virtual LNBs" (decoders) that can be positioned right next to the satellite receiver. This allows for actual cable runs of 1m or less in length from decoder to satellite receiver.

See _www.globalinvacom.com/products/fibremdu-optical-lnb.php and _http://www.globalinvacom.com/products/fibremdu-virtual-converters.php to information about the twin, quad and quatto "virtual LNBs".

I guess it just depends if the LNB is good enough to pull in the signal in the first place and if the decoders work without introducing too much signal loss/distortion!

Drool over _http://www.globalinvacom.com/products/pdfs/DSFOLNB03c2c.pdf - can someone who understands such things analyse the Specification and explain if this would be any good for fringe reception?

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

These have been "in the offing" for a while now, but it's good to see they've hit the market.

I wonder how many Beer Vouchers we're talking, though?

That information appears notable only by its absence!

There is an advert at a web site I have found for the LNB at £159.00 inc VAT. The converters cost between £150 and £199 inc VAT.

(note: a search before posting did not reveal any existing threads relating to these specific products).

My System: TM6800HD, TM1000, TM600 Linux,TM5200, TM2200 motor, Triax TD110 dish + Fortec 85cm. Meter=Satlook Micro+G2 NIT

I have bought some of these and had a chance to play them. I put 200m of fibre on the LNB, connected to a 60cm dish, no problem at all. Very easy to connect up too. Works a treat.

Costs are well over £100 for the LNB itself plus the same for the virtual quads or quattros. Fibre costs in the region of a quid a metre or less.

A notable absense at present is an LNB with a C120 flange, though I believe that I read somewhere that they would be available sometime.

Of course these won't improve anything for a properly setup system for 'fringe reception'. If the signal isn't coming from the dish, it won't make it better. But to overcome long cable run losses, excellent, as there is no in-line amps required in the coax.

Prices

Hmm.

Not too bad, I suppose, given that prices tend to drop markedly after the honeymoon period.
