My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

You will get most of the pay channels without too many problems. However if you want the BBC ITV & C4 channels you are going to need a big dish.

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

Yes, looks like a high quality 1.8m dish, or larger is required for the BBCs and ITVs

My System: apple and technomate

Hi Johnpowley,

I live in italy and use a 1 metre dish and have no problems receiving BBC & ITV. So in Vienna should be no problem.

Cheers FLATERIC09...

The situation in Vienna is vastly different to that in Italy!

This is off the Astra 2D site:

Vienna
RECEIVER: Hyunday 820 receiver

DISH: 1.8m Hirschman dish
LNB: 0.3dB Invacom
Posted 18-07-03
Astra 2D FTA channels are being picked up in Vienna, Austria (35-40%). Respected local satellite expert -http://www.olbort.at is recommending that nothing under 2.4m will do and, that Sky Digiboxes will struggle to receive a signal with anything less than that.

My System: Triax 1.1m and Orbital 80cm Motorised Dishes. Various fixed Dishes. Eclectic selection of Digital and Analogue Receivers. Complex switching and distribution that SWMBO cannot fathom. Nor me.

I live on the other side of Austria, in Vorarlberg, can get the Sky channels on a sky minidish, and I even get the weaker 2D channels (ie BBC, ITV ...) ca 50% of the time on the minidish! 80cm dish guarantees the 2D channels, you migth lose then still during the odd thunderstorm though.

Vienna will be a different story though for the 2D channels, as the footprint starts to fall off rapidly as you cross Austria. I agree that 1.8M would be minumum you would need. But, you will still get the 2A and 2B channels on the mindish in Vienna!

Agreed .... 2.4m is absolute minimum for all channels - 3m for 24 hour reception.

However 60cm will get you everything else if you have a Sky card, so you might like getting used to life without 2D. I am 40mins drive east of Wien and sorry, it's bad news - but,

@johnpowley: PM me for more info.
