Tenerife - recommendations pls

Hi,

My parents have moved out to Tenerife

I'm looking for a good (as in reliable) supplier for satellite equipment that I can buy from here in the UK, to be shipped to Tenerife - or better still someone in Tenerife.

I can get the FTA card in the UK no probs - and potentially a digibox - but its the dish - I think reading around that i'm going to need to get them a 3m dish - is that about right?

Many thanks in advance

SK

hi.

If you want BBC1 & 2 + ITV 1 + Channel 4 + sky movies...then you need a big dish (minimun 2.40 meters)

whit 60 cm dish and a sky subscription you can get the rest.... ukliving, uk gold, sky sports etc....

Hi. I have spent MONTHS looking into this. I have decided to source my dish locally in the end and am getting a 2.4m Channnel Master dish which my supplier is importing in a batch.

I also investigated sourcing it in the UK and had a positive dialogue with John Barry [John.barry@eurosat.com] who could ship the Channel Master to me. In the end the shipping and customs issued proved too complex.

I also spoke to Rob Schuster [rob@satcomresources.com] with regard to a Prodelin 3m+++ disk. Again shipping and duty issues made this impractical.

A long time ago I had a dialogue with Miller Rental - Steve Kelly [grandesteve2002@yahoo.co.uk] (www.millerrental.com) who are based in Tenerife (I think). Speak to him yourself and make your own mind up. They are local to you so you should at least be assured of good post sales support.

My CM should be installed next week. I will be posting here and on the board at www.astra2d.co.uk with the results and full spec (LNB, receiver etc.).

BTW - getting the correct receiver is also important. I have a MK I SKY+ and two PACE 2200's. It remains to be seen if I am going to have to change them.

Good luck :-)

hi skellow. i was in a sat shop here in tenerife last week, and the guy said a 3.1m dish was required to get the best viewing. and by the adverts in the local english rags they are quite a bit less expensive than the channel master ones. if your parents have moved to a complex it might be possible for them to link up to the community dish if there is one. there are a few reliable english sat firms in the south, and a few dodgy ones aswell. so always ask for a few quotes before deciding, and ask the neighbours who they use.

Are any of the suppliers there capable of accepting an order from the internet at all?

My parents are in their own place, so there is no other dish to tap into.

Ideally I would like to order the bits from here in the UK (although not necessarily from the UK) and know that they are going to arrive at my parents place.

Any ideas??

hi again. are your parents in the north or south of the island? iŽll be in christianos sometime this week and could ask the guys i go to if they accept an internet order. theŽre a good team each having spectrum analisers and are reliable. one of our friends needed his dish realigned, called up one company and when they eventually came out they asked to borrow a portable t.v. so they could use it to tune the dish in!!!!!!!

Hi I live in Torviscas in south Tenerife and have three satellites and the microwave aerial system on my roof!

Miller rentals are the best ones to fit your large dish. The chanel master 2.4 will get you everything on most recievers. However you may loose a few of the north footprint channels (In C4) for an hour or so around 6pm.

If you dont want the chanel master then you will need a 3 metre prime focus. Miller also supply these and they are 1000 euros cheaper than the chanel master but more unsightly

I currently have my version 1 Sky + box hooked up to a 90 cm offset and get all the south beam plus a few from eurobird1 (get lucky tv etc) If i connect my pace sky box in I get more chanels from eurobird 1. This proves that the plus box is not as good on fringe reception.

If you get a free view card it will need marrying to the plus box before you can use the rewind and record functions!

You will also have to chage your default transponder settings to 11.470 or you will get nout!

Other than that you should be fine.

My parents are in the North, nr Tacaronte.

Would Millers be in a position to take an order from the UK to be paid by credit card?
