My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

I gather from your apparent desperation Tony, that you have been unable to find someone on the island with a large steerable dish. Unfortunately I have not seen any reports on my travels regarding sicily.

Better a solid dish Tony, but if they supply 3 metre dishes, they must know someone with one that can be shifted round to 28.2 E.

If you ask me,stay away from the mesh dish tony.
They might sound a good idea but are not as good as solid dishes when it comes to performance.

I have found some dish size recomendations for your part of the med.
Maybe they will give you an idea of what is required.

Dish Sizes:
Northern Italy, down as far as Parma: 90cm Dish ( 1.0CM) best).

NO VERIFICATION FOR ASTRA 2D SIGNALS FURTHER SOUTH, MAY HAVE TO BE LARGER!
Central Italy down as far as Rome: 1.2m Dish ( 1.5m) best.
Southern Italy, down as far as R / Calabria: 1.8m (2.0m) best.

So...you might stand a chance with a good solid 3m dish + decent LNB.

Another good site for Astra 2D is _http://www.astra2d.com
Check it out

@Coviello:
Thank you very much for this detailed listing.
Since my origin is from the other side of the Ionian Sea, Corfu to be precise, it's of big interest for me.
Is it possible for you to make some measurements with bigger dishes, let's say 1.80m, 2.40m and 3m ?
And other positions would be also very interesting.
What about Astra 1B/C/E/F, Sirius 2+3 Nordic Beam, Thor 2 and different C-Band satellites like Thaicom 2/3 on 78.5E, PAS 7/10 on 68.5E, Intelsat 901 on 18W, Intelsat 801 on 31.5W, Intelsat 903 on 34.5W, NSS806 on 40.5W, Intelsat 805 on 55.5W ?
Would be great if you could build up a list on a website or so.

Thanks again and have a nice summer left there. I know til the end of Oct you have nice weather there most of the time.

I found a 3mt solid dish from IRTE. does anybody know if its really a good dish and if it performs really like a 3 mt dish or if its performances are less then its 3mt size?
This is the only shop i found in Italy till now..does anybody know other shops which supply big dishes as big as from 2.4 mt?
Does anybody know if the Astra 2D transborders ( ITV, RTE , BBC ) have the same strenght or if there is difference between ?
I found this shop in Spain ( cyberland ) which sells big dish...does anybody know if i can trust them ? Pls if somebody has already dealed with them, i would appreciate to know more about this shop in Spain, expecially if someone could tell me if the dishes they sell are good quality or not..
Sorry for so many questions...
Ty to everybody which will be able to help me..

Of what i have heard so far people aren't glad about the performance of IRTE dishes for this size. In Greece for example where signals are much weaker than in Italy serious installers prefer dishes like DH, Channel Master, Patriot, Andrew but i suppose those are far more expensive than an IRTE of the same size. Also have a look on corrosion and windload if you are in a region where the climate could harm the material like salty air, high humidity most of the time all over the year or often strong winds.
Maybe someone can answer your question better.

Currently I am on holiday in Puglia
I look forward to answering your question by the end of August.
My 3m prime focus antenna (together with a similar smaller one of
1.5 m diameter) is located in Basilicata, and datas will be referred to
41.5N 15.1 E.

Ok my friend, any data from southern Italy is welcomed. Enjoy your holiday. I'll keep on waiting.
By the way, if there is anybody with a bigger motorised C/KU dish in Puglia would be great to have reports on the weaker satellites what is possible to get.

Hi, i have a 2.4 mt irte prime focus dish (8 pieces). It was second hand.
Is very important that the piece are allineated very good.I have repainted it. The gain is not the best ( i think is like a 180cm offset ), but i know is very difficult in Italy buy a "big" dish.

Question Fingers Crossed

Ciao,

The misses and I are looking to relocate to Puglia in 2007. After extensive research, I have found that I will probably need a 2.8m dish or greater. So I have settled on getting a Patriot 3.1 Prime Focus. Luckily, we have nearly 4 hectares to hide the monster. As the dish will be more thatn 18m away from the house, I have decided to use a Pace Sky+ 2 box and a hauppauge dual PVR connected to a media server with a MCE Wireless Extender. This way, all the PC/TV units can pick Astra 2D in the house without the need for recabling and amplifiers.
Fingers crossed this works or it could be a costly mistake.

Ciao.

My System: 1.25m offset dish for Astra2 28deg., 1.2m dual feed for Astra1 and Hotbird, Thomson Sky HD, Humax HDCI2000, Dragon CAM, Invacom 0.3 twin lnb, Dell Dimension 4400 and Inspiron 1525, 1 meg broadband

Glantaff,
May I ask how you came to conclude that a 2.8m dish would be ok for Astra 2D in Puglia?? It sounds way too small to me.
I'm in Lazio (Frosinone) and know of no-one who can pick up 2D.

Just for Information: In southern Corfu/Greece (Ai Petros & Cavos) they have installed some Channel Master 3m, even one Supral 2.4*2.7m Offset i have seen on a roof that get at least the H polarization with the BBCs. I don't know though if they can get all H's or any of the V's from where the ITVs transmit. Puglia is not too far away from Corfu so there is a slight chance that a 2.8m - especially if it is Offset - could partly do the job.

I demand: Pay-TV subscriptions worldwide available - with any receiver - just like print magazines !

Hi Denis1501,

As we are 300mt above sea level and an unobstructed path to AD28, I am going out in October with a meter to test the strength as I have the precise coordinates of the base, azimuth, polarization, elevation etc. I'll post a message with the readings.
Regards
