I am in Gothenburg Sweden and would love to have All the Channels on Astra 2D. Is it possible? Considering the footprint shows that I'm out-of-reach. I do not own any equipment just now for Satellite viewing and would like to spend only what is necessary.
Any and all suggestions/Help will be extremly appreciated.
Cheers!

I don't live in the Gothenburg area but I guess you would need a dish size of about 2 meters.

Check out this link you might find some info there.

Hi Geoff

I know you didn't ask me, but..

Paphos and Polis - 2.7m DH

Paphos and District up to Aphrodite Hills - 2.7m DH

Aphrodite Hills to Tourist Area Limassol - 3.0M DH

Tourist Area Limassol to Orkolini - 3.8 Andersen, 3.7m DH, 3.7Prodelin, 4.2m
Jonsa ( first most expensive - last cheapest )

Oroklini - Xylafargou - 3.8 Andersen 3.7m DH, 4.2m Jonsa

Xylafargou - Agia Napa / Protaras - 4.2 Jonsa ( a 4.2 DH / 4.5 Prodelin would prob. do the job, but never fitted either, but figures suggest they'd work. )

These figures take into account that signals tend to be weaker in Summer months due to the effects of propagation.

Now why do you need to know this? Do you have so many houses?!

Thanks for that info. No, I only have the one house near Vrysoulles. But I often get asked such info by those who know I am keen on satellite TV and also a Radio Amateur. They assume I have all the answers, which of course I don't!

Has anybody tested a panasonic TU-DSB31 i live in Denmark vejle,
and have all Astra2d chanels 24/7 useing one, my dish is 110cm.
The funny thing is when we had the last big storm about 10 days ago.
Denmarks TV and our TV2 had black outs on picture and sound because of the storm,
but i was whatching perfect BBC ITV CH4 AND Five with no problems not even a pixel out of place.

All the best Thomas

Talking PACE 2600 works great!

I replaced my amstrad drx100 with a pace 2600.
Before I only had 70 Strength and 30-40 Quality.
With the Pace 2600 I have 70 Strength and 80 Quality on the same 80 cm dish and a grundig 0.3 lnb.

Well..... I can confirme the tuner on THOMSON SKY+ 160 is excellent in fringe areas...I have tested four of these units lately on various dish setups & their results were impressive.

Hi Iceman,

thanks for this information - I promised to give an update, too. I haven't got anything scientific, just a gut feeling that the tuner is good.

The tuner in the 4212 model from the same company performs well, too.

One thing for sure- when the signal does drop off, these units do not make the noises that some other digiboxes make.

Just to give an example to prove THOMSON SKY+ 160's excelent tuner.
I noticed it clears channel4 on my 1.5cm motorised offset dish in the afternoons..the picture now & again breaks up but still watchable..
I've tested almost all makes & models of disgiboxes on this same 1.5cm offset Jonsa+0.4dB Sharp LNB...This is the only box clearing channel4..
I am really impressed with this box

Sky + digibox

With a Sky plus box, do you need the telephone to be connected to record using the hard drive?
And has anyone experience of the Pace Sky + in Cyprus?

No need for a telephone line for recording....SKY+ works OK in Cyprus.(activating the recording function could be a pain tho)

Don't know if they have the same tuners, but if they have don't be too shure both of them are good for fringe if that's what you're after.

It also depends on how the rest of the receiver handles the signal, just read about this in one of the latest issues of Tele Satellite .

Dear "Ice"

If you have bought a *retail* SKY + and the SKY card is in your name / you have bought from a "sorted" supplier, turning on the record facility without a tel. line in Cyprus is NO problem at all.

I turned on one SKY + 160 and two SKY + Pace 3100's yesterday..

Hi Manicop,

IMHO the DS430N isn't nearly as good as the 2600C1 in Cyprus.. but as Iceman says, we *love* the new Thompson SKY + 160..

The old Pace Javlin mini box, was very good, too, but only has one scart socket
