DH / clones

Nick

1/ DH 3.0m are available in "shallow / deep " configs

2/ I think you'll find that the "eastern eurpean " dishes are the same design and may be only the paper work is of eastern european origin.

I have heard from different places that they are of east european origin.

Strengthened Famavals

Dear Nick

IMHO wires are a waste of time.. you need adjustability in your bracing.

Install the dish, making sure you get the best signal from 2D, by trying to point directly at it.. ( try to use the diagonal (polar adjustment) only when you are near maximum.

THEN fit adjustable bracing ..

see attached photo

..if you zoom in you'll note bottle screws.. amazingly, adjusting these often sends the signal up more.... no more call outs after winds ..

I am a big fan of Famavals, I own one myself and put a fair few up too. However even I would generally conceed that the Extended Famaval cannot out perform the 3m DH (I have only ever worked on the shallow version).

I am also VERY open minded. The only bracing I put on my Fammy's are wires from the Elevation hinge bolts and the bottom of the ring, which are only for wind bracing. What other stuff are you talking about? Is it those triangular things that are bolted between petals that I see in Paphos? How exactly do they work? How do you set them?

Sorry for all the questions, unlike many of the other out there I do not rely on Sat Installation for a living so I am willing to spend the time - even if it is on my own dish!

Cheers

Nick

My System: 3.1m Famaval on 28.2, 1.5m offset on 19.2e, 13e & 7e all mixed in a spaghetti of wires and going into a dream thingy.

Yes, I know that...Please check http://www.dhsatellite.com/images/48...0%20MANUAL.pdf and scroll to page 6....One F/L is 37.75in = 90.8cm the other is 47.75in = 121.3cm. None of these are the same as the 80ish cm F/L that the copies have!

Why take a high quality US Built dish and give it the paperwork of a low quality eastern european copy. It doesn't make sense to me.

Still not convinced Janus, need more evidence I'm afraid.

The wires are a matter of opinion, I personally think they are superior to fitting a bar, however I have never seen one like the one you have in the photo. The fact is that I didn't like the Bar arrangement because there was no adjustability in that type of brace, but again, yours seems different. The wires that I fit do have adjustability...I fit turn buckles to them and tighten them whilst watching my spectrum and or TV picture. Like you, I have also noticed improvements in signal as I adjusted one of the wires but always assumed it was a further fine tune of the dish. I never thought it was improving the overall gain of it. I will have a closer look at this. My own Famaval is virtually new and has no bracing fitted at present. Over the next few days I will fine tune it to get the gain as good as possible in the evening without bracing fitted, then I will fit the wires and adjust to see what happens.

I can't make out the detail on the dish to see the adjusters. Any chance of a higher res piccy? If you can't post it to the thread then can I PM you my Email so you can send it that way?

Thanks for all the input Janus.

Cheers

Nick
