SKY+HD Box Occasional Freezing

Noticed last night (for first time since I had the Thomson HD box installed in Oct) that I was getting occasional freezing of the picture - both SD and HD - but the sound continued perfectly. Changing channels unfroze the picture but am concerned that this might continue. Any tips to avoid this in future please? Do I need to call a SKY engineer out or is there a local fix? Thanz.

Try a reboot.I posted about this a while ago. These boxes have a fault with certain components. If fault persists I would call sky but you will get no joy from them.i sent mine off to a company in Enniskillen and have had no probs since then.Good luck.

Interested to know why I would get no joy from SKY given that I've only had the box 3 months.

Quite simply they are unwilling to admit there is an inherant fault with the boxes crashing all the time. They will offer you an engineer for £90 (I think) which is non-refundable.Check other sites or do a search on sky hd faults.Certain componants will fail and they will not repair free of charge. You can argue until you are blue in the face but they will not relent.I cancelled my hd sub and sent the box away as I said. After the stb was returned I set up my sub again.Try customer services and you will see what I am talking about.Best of British. You will need it

I assume that as it is only 3 months old - and has a 1 year warranty - that any repairs and/or visits by engineers are covered and should not attract additional payment i.e no call-out fee. If not, I shall cancel and revert to just SKY+.
Is this component problem just attributable to the Thomson or to all SKY HD boxes?

My System: 1.2M, & 55cm Gregorian Dish`s, 1.8m Precision dish Jaeger 1224 H-H motor.Dreambox 800, Vbox-II. SS2 Card.

This sounds like a PSU fault, that the thomson box`s are prone to. But this normally happens after 15 months or so.

Do you get the no signal on screen with the fault?

No, it just freezes but the sound carries on. Switch to another channel and then back to the original and all is OK for a while. Recorded programmes on the planner seem unaffected. The fault does appear to be very sporadic though.
