Excuse the simplicity of this question. Would a UK sourced SKY+ Thompson box work in say, Switzerland using a subscription based service in Germany? Can configuration and activation work without a telephone line present.

I ask as I have been quoted nearly GBP900 for a Swiss box when I have a totally suitable one in my hand at a quarter of the price.

thanks everyone

As you have not completed your location details it is difficult to understand where you are located which could influence the answers to your question. Having said that a sky+ stb is not designed for watching the German Premiere bouquet yet whilst it is true Premiere are transmitting in Videoguard whether it is the same version of NDS Videoguard is another question to be answered.
Only a member who has a subscription to Premiere utilising NDS videoguard would know what is required by Premiere as regards telephone line etc, I suspect though that the provider is probably steering down the same road as sky where they control the supply of stb's as well as content etc. Perhaps other members know more.

sorry about that. I'm based in switzerland and currently supplied with a Thompson 607120X. Activation performed OK without the need for a telephone line. All working fine with the viewing card. I just want to establish whether I can swap the box with my Thomson PVR4 300GB SKY+ box or whether there are inherent differences or it could damage the card/system.
I have also aske the supplier if they reckon it will theorectically work

Well

If you already have the kit and you are just concerned about the card being fried, I would say go for it and give it a try, what have you got to lose, I would not worry too much, even if it was fried you could claim it just stopped working in the correct unit and get a new card issued I suspect, or claim the 'dog' destroyed it.
