Just dont' get it... Sky+HD stunt...

Just got the Feb Sky Mag in though the door and had a quick browser through it.

What puzzled me was that there had been a few Sky HD adverts running on the telly for "Something Big to Happen to Sky+ HD" and "Refer to your Sky Feb Mag". I was looking forward to this and thought they might even start to either lower the HD subscription or remove it all together.

NOPE. It's only a reduction of the actual box (here in Ireland) to now EUR 49. You got to be kidding me. The HD subscription is now EUR 14.75 (price lowered - from EUR 15.00!!!!! - because of the new increased VAT) but not taken into consideration that the Sterling is more or less worth the same as the EUR. I know that you can't keep on changing the price because of a FRX fluctuation, but honestly....

Anyhow, this stunt doesn't make any sense to me. The only way to get more customers is to waive the HD subscription for let's say full package subscribers and not slashing the price on the boxes...

My System: 1.25m offset dish for Astra2 28deg., 1.2m dual feed for Astra1 and Hotbird, Thomson Sky HD, Humax HDCI2000, Dragon CAM, Invacom 0.3 twin lnb, Dell Dimension 4400 and Inspiron 1525, 1 meg broadband

Totally agree with everything you say in this post.
The €14.75 puts me off HD too and I would take the full package in an instant if it was waived.I'd be willing to pay up to €70 pm and that's it. With the €14.75 charge the price for the full package is €84.25 and if you have Setanta the price rises to €104.24. That's crazy money in my opinion.
HD is nice.......but it's not that nice!

My System: Pace Sky HD, DM7000s, CubeRevo 3000HDPVR, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Televes H45 Digital Spectrum analyser.

I believe that Sky are about to launch their new HD box, with HD programmes available in the Sky Anytime menu and a larger Hard disk, that may be what they were going to promote.

But didn't SKY just release "new" boxes manufactured by Samsung and PACE a little short while ago?

Neither can I see what the big fuss is about a larger Hard Disk as this can easily be upgraded and a swarm of these are readily available on Ebay and the likes. I doubt that the picture quality will get any better on the new boxes and in all fairness, are there that many people using "anytime" anyway?
