Sky+ HD box for 49 quid

Evening All,

As an existing Sky subscriber Im thinking of upgrading to Sky+ HD. Can anyone tell me if Sky will just send me the HD box in the post, or if an engineer will have to come round and install it instead?

Many Thanks.

Mezzo.

My System: Various digiboxes, broken Nokia 9800S, numerous analogue boxes. My lovely little lappy, HP Omnibook 6100

If you're upgrading from a standard Digibox then you'll definitely need a visit as the LNB will have to be changed and extra cabling installed. From a $ly+ installation, not sure but I wouldn't have thought so.

As im based in Germany i guess its going to be a lot less hassle for me to buy a second hand HD box off of Ebay, then call Sky to upgrade my subscription package?

If you are coming to the UK in the near future some big branches of Tesco are selling new HD boxes for £199

Thanks for the info. I dont suppose these boxes would take a genuine Sky card without requiring any modification would they?

The £199 Tesco boxes are pukka Sky HD boxes not generic ones.

Ok cool. i should check Tesco.

So it would be a case of taking my Sky card to the UK and calling Sky to marry the card to the box? Actually, can that bit be done online from my MySky account?

Wouldnt it raise suspicion for me to buy the tesco box as I already have a sky subscription? I mean, when I give sky the serial number they would know its a new box that hadnt been used surely?

It's certainly not unknown for people to buy their own $ly + boxes elsewhere as many don't want a subsidised box if it means being forced to attach the box to the telephone line for a year.

so a second hand sky hd box and a call to skye to upgrade my current card to receive the HD channels, whilst marrying said card to second hand hd box, looks like the best way to accomplish my quest for hd skye in the fatherland?

i intend to call skye when im back in the uk, but would calling skye using skype in germany work without raising any eyebrows?
