Help with Sky HD setup!

Ok first of all I'm in Tenerife, Canary Islands and have had 'normal' SKy for about 9 years. I've recently decided to upgrade to Sky HD. I've also been able to link up to a 2.4m Channel Master dish, so it made sense to upgrade. Bought a box off Ebay, it was an Amstrad DRX780UK. I've also got an Invacom Quad LNB. I just have to wait a few weeks til I can have all this setup.

The problem is that I connected my new box to my old 1m dish with just 1 cable (as a local technician said it would still work) but I just get 'no satelite signal being received' I've tried lots of different settings. 11.740, 11.778, 12.040 And I can get about 3/4 signal strentgh and quality. I can see all the channels and tv guide and the time is correct, but the channels dont work. I did get channel 5 to work, but nothing else. Then I tried another setting and it went off but I could get Sky Sports. Then it went off.

I just wanted to know if anyone had any experience with this problem? Is it down to only having 1 cable, or is the box faulty? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thanks.

Hello

Welcome to the forum scotman75

Well all the sky HD's are on different birds and beams and you being so far away I would imagine most would be inaccessible to you click here to see all the beams and birds carrying sky HD. Moving to the right of the page and clicking the beam shows you the footprint

Thanks Topper, We can get the South 2B and 2C beam not sure how much we pick up of 2D with a small dish. But I'm sure the signal isnt the problem.

I've been playing around with it and have a strong signal on 12.110, and have Sky Sports 1 and 3 working. Nothing else though!

First of all you need to confirm if you can receive the Astra2 North beam with your dish. If you cannot then you have to change the default Tp to one of that on the South beam. No 2d on a small dish

Update:

I've had an installer out and he connected my 2.4m dish. I can now get all the channels I was expecting to. As soon as the 2nd cable went on, they came on, but I still get a similar problem. If I change to a channel that I dont get (BBC3, Sky Movies, etc...) then all the channels go off. What I've found out is that if I swap the cables over, Input 1 into 2 and so on, then the picture comes straight back on. I might have to unplug the box and reboot sometimes but it generally works.

The box I have is an Amstrad DRX780UK, and I'm using it overseas. Has anyone had or heard of anyone with these problems before??? I'm sure its a problem with my box, as I have an old sky box that works fine. The installer said that I should give it a couple of days to update the box as its brand new. Is this just him making excuses or could it sort itself out?

Thanks!!!

My System: Sky + HD

Over a week later and I have had no problems with my channels. But when I come to record a channel and then move onto another channel, I get sound from the original channel and a no signal sign. If I check my signal it usually says both are not locked. I can reboot the system and it works fine recording on both tuners with both signals locked and ok. It dosent last long though. Couple of hours max, and its back to not locked and unabale to record on two channels. Really frustrating have to reboot the box all the time. Any ideas?
