New Sky "white" cards will NOT work in any CAM at present (TRex, Dragon or Diablo) and I personally believe the firmware will never be updated now to allow their use as the developers/hackers have now moved on to other things. The only non Sky receivers now capable of using Sky white cards are Linux based ones with appropriate software.

Vantage 8000 (not linux based) works fine with new white sky cards (read and update)

Have all the developers moved on ? Surely all the CAM makers can't be part of the same hacker group, can they ?

Danit, can you give me some more info on the Vantage 8000. I currently use my FireDTV with DVBViewer and T-Rex cam to cap to my PC. I am getting "change your card" messages now so it is only a matter of time before my card is dead. Is there any way I can still cap in pure TS stream to my PC with the new white Sky card using the Vantage ? Does it record in pure TS or is it encoded on the fly by different quality settings ? What is the PC to Vatange link like ? Sorry for all the questions, I will understand if you have better things to do than give me the info.

Have a look in the Dreambox section as there are a few threads regarding the new Sky white card.

we're a bit OT here, there's a Vantage HD section on this forum, anyway I'll give you some clues...

no it records in .trp format, dividing different tracks (video, audio, subtitles etc.), if it's SD file you can use many free software to convert in .ts (ProjectX, TS Doctor, etc.) or use KMPlayer without needing to convert, if it's a HD file, as far as I know only DVR-Studio HD will work properly

PC link, I never tried personally but I guess it's pretty easy (just read some guides and reports), btw. no cs is possible

My System: Irish Sky sub, Freesat HD from 28.2 East, BIS 5W and a Motorised Dish with a HTPC holding it all together

I have a Technomate TM-6800 Super that will read a white card but it will not update the card.

The main use/selling point of these CAMs has now been defeated by all the secure encryption methods. Use of these CAMs for decoding genuine subscription cards was a secondary use for a vast majority of purchasers.

Shame, as I am sure loads of users would prefer the use of their PC to watch and cap then to use Sky+.

That is the very reason I have cancelled my UK sub. I will still maintain the Irish sub so I can watch RTE etc. but now that I can't watch my UK subscription channels via my HTPC thats it for me. I can get by nicely with the Freesat channels.

I wonder how many more people have canned their subs because Sky want to tie us into their inflexible boxes?

To Danit

Danit,
could you please tell me with which firmware version does the new Sky card work in your Vantage HD? Did you spot any problem with overheating or is everything fine? Thanks a lot for reply.

This is not entirely correct as I currently am using my new white sky card in my diablo light cam loaded with firmware 184.

The problem im having with this cam at the moment is although it works ok with the new white sky cards it will not let you open the premium channels such as movies and sport from the card.

I have asked many questions on other forums on if there is a way to enter in my Boxkey to the diablo firmware and the answer always is no.

I have since had to cancel the sky movies off my sky package and Im now just on the sky basic package. But im not worried about this as there is many other movie channels on other satellites.

Sky UK have deliberately implemented this feature, to stop C/S, the basic channels always worked in the Diabo, and Dragon, cams without the need of the box key, this was always reserved for the premium channels.
Other major providers might also upgrade their encryption, in the future, to attempt to stop C/S, Sky Italy seem to trying something now.
There might be a new cam, or software, released to allow us to view the premium channels, but Sky will continue to try to stop us viewing their premium channels in non official receivers.
It might be worth checking the Dreambox section as these, and other linux receivers, seem to be working with the new Sky cards.
C/S = Card Sharing.

The basic channels, that's Sky 1 etc, should still work, but the premium channels, which include the Movies & Sports packages will not.
Have you had your old card working in the Dragon/T-Rex Cam before in this receiver?
If not then the most basic error is inserting the card the wrong way round, it needs to go into the cam with the chip facing upwards, different to the card slot on a receiver.
There is a new Diablo Cam due out in a couple of weeks that might resolve the issue, otherwise you might need to get a Linux based HD receiver.

Thanks for reply !
yes it used to work with my old card and receiver but it won't work with my new white card and the same cam and receiver,
I didn't check the basic channels, I used to use it to get Natgeo HD< History HD etc, but now nothing!
well, the only reason I like to use my own STB is, I can easily record programs and transfer them to my computer for my archive! that is it.
then we have to wait right ?
do you thing there is any chance to get a new(update) file for T-Rex 4.6 to make it alive again or it's time to get rid of this and wait for new cams to come ?
thanks
