My System: Sky+ PC
Question SKY HD box to record Freesat?

Hi

I'm currently just on a Sky+ box and thinking about (a) upgrading to a Panasonic screen with built-in Freesat, (b) whether it's worth getting Sky HD as well and (c) whether there's a way of recording the Freesat HD signal (in HD).

Does anyone know if it's possible to upgrade to a Sky HD box but carry on with the normal Sky (non-HD) subscription (i.e. saving yourself a tenner a month) but still use your Sky HD box to record Freesat?

I'm a bit new to all this, so tell me if this is a stupid question...

Thanks

My System: Currently, Nokia 1800S with satscan, analogue receiver, Nokia 9800S, D box with DVB2000, 90cm solid offset dish, Panasonic tv with inbuilt freesat. Sky + HD (for the wife, mostly!)
Recording freesat

If you are getting a Panasonic Viera tv with built in freesat it is possible for the tv to send the freesat signal via the Viera link (HDMI cable or fully wired scart) to a Panasonic Viera DVD/HDD recorder. The TV can control the recorder as well. I have done it a couple of times with my Panasonic TV/DVD recorder setup. I haven't tried recording an HD freesat channel yet though.

you need to have a sub card from sky to record the channels ..
if you want a cheaper way get the freesat recorder by humax price is £299 but when you do the pros and cons you save the tenner a month . and recored in hd

With the Panasonic viera link up to a Panasonic HDD recorder you can also pause live tv and time delay it according to the instructions, but I haven't tried doing that yet either! (I have only had the big Panasonic plasma for just over a month and if I could just get the wife away from it for a little while so I could have a play with it................!) A Panasonic Viera HDD/DVD recorder costs around £299, but if you are buying a big plasma with freesat you might get a good deal. At the moment Panasonic are giving a free 5 year warranty, which is worth having as it is from Panasonic themselves not an insurance type extended warranty.
