Power Supply fault problems,on some sky hd boxes?

Hello!
i am planing,to buy a sky hd box,but iam not sure at the moment,what modell,should i buy!

about the THOMSON DSI 8215 with 500 gb Harddrive,i read, about many faulty power supplys!

what modell,can you suggest!

does, all hd sky boxes ,have bad power supply, with hot operating temperature,or are the some "better"then the others?

or does the hd make the thermic problem?
what is ,the maximum temperature,of the thomson box, that this power supply, always is faulty?
doese every sky hd box have,a noisy cooler,or are the some models, that comes without cooler?

you need the new sky hd remote about £24.50
some say on other boxes you can use a sky plus remote not sure if you can as i just sold my sky plus due to a thomson anytime tv fault

pace is great and the best and cool running and so quiet on a glass tv stand and has the new epg software and is fast at channel scanning and recording side sd and hd quilty is great at 1080i but a bit burry on 720p . so expect a high price for the box on Ebay

samsung is a good box with great picture on samsung tvs inc plasma
but still not got the new egp software yet but sky are working on it due to afew bugs and gets warm a bit but good soild performance on 1080i and is good at 720p

amstard is new .gets warm but quiet channel scanning is a bit slow not that much

thomson is very faulty so many reports on many forums on it just google it and gets very warm due to a bigger hard drive so expect loads on Ebay very cheap .

well thats all i can say and what i tested in our shop

hope that help you in buying a cheap one

My System: EchoStar AD 3600 Rec, 85cm Motorised dish, 1Tb SKY HD UK, FreeView

Turok,

A Thomson with an upgraded power supply available from either _http://www.satcure.co.uk/accs/page12.htm#hd or _http://www.digifixltd.co.uk/powersupplyrepair.html along with a new Hard Disk _http://www.lambda-tek.com/componentshop/index.pl?prodID=B107867 this one would be perfect) is actually a very good box. Sat c ure can sell you a bag of very high quality capacitors that you can fit or get fitted yourself and either supplier can supply you with an exchange board, but you need to send you old faulty board in first. I have a Sa tcu re Power Supply in my Thomson along with a new HDD and I have never looked back.

Aside from the power supply problems, the new EPG software issued by Sky is very hit and miss and has caused problems on some (but not all) boxes. Currently both Thomson and Pace boxes have the new software, Samsung and Amstrad are awaiting it.

If you get a Thomson or a Pace (and therefore have the new EPG software), I would suggest you disable the following functions: Mini TV, Anytime TV and Auto Standby. These seem to cause the most problems.

For your information your Thomson Power Supply options are detailed in _http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showpost.php?p=28320823&postcount=9 this post from Digital Spy I wrote last year.

I hope this helps.

Good luck.
