Downgrade Sky to free to view & free to air channels only

Husband left and downgraded sky+ HD full to Sky+ HD £9 pm. If we downgrade to freeview only with the sky card will the recording still work/

Thanks

My System: Sky UK. FTA analogue & digital satellite from 6 fixed dishes (5E/7E/9E/10E/13E/16E/ 19E/23E/28E) Pace MSS100, Echostar IP3000VA, Technomate TM-1000D, Dreambox 7020S

The last noble sat warrior to fly the olden flag of Analogue

No - and any recordings you have of scrambled channels wont be playable either.

If you cancel your subs completely you need to pay £10/month to keep the recording part of the sky+box active

My System: 75e-75w C & KU, 36v h-h /36v & diseqc actuators / diseqc -USALS motors / Anlg to HD Channel Masters C120s dishes, stb's inc echo3000, lnbs, meters, custom polar mounts & elevation/incline actuator conversions...

downgrade to freeview ? ... we upgrade to 'Freesat' here.... 1000s of free channels .. all over the world... movie channels too ...

you could get a nice engineer to put you a motorised one in, pay once and cancel $ky ...

Just to clarify:

Freeview = Digital Terrestrial Television (Through an Aerial)

Freesat = Digital Satellite Television (Through a Dish)

FreesatfromSky = Substantially the same Channels as Freesat (a relatively new BBC/ITV venture) plus a small number of Channels that an old SkySubs Card will decode even after you've cancelled. Those Channels are Setanta Sports News, Sky Three, Fiver and Five US.

All the main BBC, ITV, Channel 4 Channels are Free (No Card required), as is Five.

As Viewing Cards are due for change this Spring, yours may eventually lose those very few additional Channels, but the main ones won't be affected.

Thanks all. I am told no digital via aerial until 2012 here in outer London so satellite it is.

At the mo the subscription is £9 which gives sky+ and HD. We don'r mind losing the HD but want to keep recording. There is no money to change anything.

Basically then we can't record without Sky?

Unhappy

Had you not said there was no money etc, we could have pointed you in the direction of the Humax Freesat+ Box available for about £300!

As it is, the answer is "No".

On the other hand, if there is a hidden piggy bank, you could get a cheap DVD Recorder, I suppose.

Actually, looking at your profile, it seems we are to lose you to Spain - that'll be fun as Satellite reception over there is a different kettle of cheese altogether!

I live in Spain. This is about my daughter in the UK. So far we get reasonable reception in Spain although sadly lose BBC2 in the evening.

My daughter's sky+ is playing up on BBC at the mo as i said on another thread. Sky said we need an engineer. However with her hubby defaulting and small child so she has no job there is no cash available.Guess the £9pm is still the best bet.

naughty hubby said in mediation yesterday he was paying £20!!!

Oh dear. So sorry to hear that.

If the Recording is more of a "nice to have" than a major requirement, it might be possible to pick up an old VCR from a Freecycle group?

As she is confined to barracks with a small child she relies on TV more than most and I feel the recording is essential.

Oh well just have to find the £9pm I reckon.

Thanks for all the helpful replies.
