My System: Sky HD Medion Laptop
Question No Satallite Signal

Have just registered and not sure if this is the right forum, appologies if not.

I have a Sky + HD setup and recently cancelled my Sky subscription. Therefater, I was able to get the usual Freeview programs and Setanta, whom I have since subscribed to.

The other day my receiver was turned off in the morning and when I turned it on the Sky screens had changed and I assume their was update sent down from the Satallite. Apart from my Analogue reception I mostly watch Sky News which is working fine. However, today I turned onto Setanta and "No Satellite Signal" came up. This is the message I am getting on all channels with the exception of Sky News, so I must be getting a signal. Just to confirm it I went into services and although the 2nd LNB is a bit dodgy,my main LNB has full reception.

I have tried the usual unplug for five minutes, cleaning the card etc with no effect.

Have Sky somehow cut my signal with the exception of Sky News. No that's no possible is it ? Can anyone give me a clue please

Well

Have you spoken to sky?, it does sound like an update has been done but obviously something is not right now. I would check it out with them

Not too sure what the legalities are now, however as you should have Setanta anyhow that could be the place to start, at the end of the day Sky systems are controlling what you watch and they are controlling what is downloaded to stb's so I fail to see how they can wash their hands of you completely just because you can no longer afford their prices

Have just phoned Sky support and they say they cannot help because as a non subscriber they cannot diagnose anything through my viewing card. They asked me if I wanted Sky Customer Service number but when I asked if they could help me I was told probably not.

How long ago did you cancel the subscription, and have you tried a 'press backup for eternity' firmware upgrade ?

There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness"

I have found out how to do this but updating myself has not cured the problem. I have notice however, that some other channel do work. Not the usual Freeview ones though. For example Film 24, Euronews, Fox News and of course, as I have said Sky News.

My System: Motorised ASC 1.2m,1224 Supermount with C120 Invacom Quad LNB with Matched Feedhorn.

Have you tried swapping the input feeds around,so try input 2 on number 1 and vise versa if this works may indicate fault with origional input 1 cable/connections/lnb port.

If it doesnt try and borrow a box from friend neighbour if theirs works yours is faulty if it dont looks like dish/lnb/cable/connector fault.

Hope that makes some sense

Yes it make sense thanks. I have another box & card somewhere and will try it as you have suggested. However, there has been at least one more thread posted with the same problem, so I don't think my equipment is faulty. As I first suspected the fault seems to be the Sky update that occurred the other night.

I have emailed Sky's CEO and Setanta, because they won't be happy to my lose subscriptions due to Sky's faulty update. As I have said are there any others in the same position ?
